question abt injections

Post by appy »

Hi .......I am a little confused abt which needles to use to administer my
injections............ Have to start my injections on thursday
I have insulin syringes which I presume are for Lupron....I need
to inject lupron microdose twice daily(10 units)
.......But I am a little confused abt Menopur......I have Norm -ject syringes
(1CC) and 30 G 1/2" needles..........and Q caps and also two 3 ml
22G 11/2" syringes/needles..........
Which one do I use for menopur? And what r those 3 ml syringes for?
Are they for novarel? Do i use the Norm ject syringe with the q cap
for mixing and then attach the 30G 1/2'" needle to the same syringe?
Have forgotten everything learnt at Injection Training

Would appreciate if someone could clarify this for me.........Thanx!!

I hope someone can help you. Maybe call your RE? My lupron came in kits so the needles were in the box but also had extras. My needles came in ziplocs packaged with the appropriate meds but I ordered from an online pharmacy. Good luck!

the tiny needles are for your stim shots. the bigger needels are for the poi. The clinic'll explain everything to you when it's time to start

yes, your RE or nurse practitioner will clarify everything for you. The tiny ones (insulin) are for Lupron. The bigger needles are usually to get the progesterone in oil out of the vial, and then you switch to a smaller needle to inject it in your body.

When I first got my box of meds I was both excited and overwhelmed but after getting the crash course from my nurse everything made sense :) and half way through you will feel like an expert!

Best wishes.

Yes, you feel like a pro at the end. Dh is terrified of needles & he is now a pro at giving me my shots. You will catch on quick once you are shown.

I am also on the micro lupron protocol so i can tell you what I use if thats any help??

For the microdose Lupon (i do 20 units) i use the insulin syringe 1/2cc with a 29 gauge 1/2" needle

For the Menopur i use a 1ml syringe, add the Q-cap, draw up the dilutant then add it to the powder, mix and repeat as necessary (adding powders). I then inject with a 27 gauge 1/2" needle

PIO is different and i havent done this yet as last cycle i used suppositories instead, but from my med training i can see i use the 3ml syringe, mix it with the big fat needle (18 gauge 1 1/2' needle) and inject after changing the needle to the smaller (but still unpleasant) 22gauge 1 1/2" needle.

Remember my RE might have given different needles etc, but hopefully this might help :)
