Hello, I'm new!

Post by Teresa »

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself to you all! I have been trying to get pregnant for 5 years now and have my next appointment on Monday - God, it's all SOOOOOOOOOO slow.

I had a fibroid removed last year as they thought this may be the problem (not) and now I am on Bromocriptine as my prolactin was high, it has now come down, however my cycles are 28 days so I must be ovulating, so not sure what these pills will do for me. Husband is fine, it's me that has the unexplained "problem".

I am ready to throw a tantrum on Monday as, I'm sure most of you agree here, things are not moving quickly enough. I am 33 and the hospital seem to think I have years left to keep trying. I do not want to find out at 40 that I am too old to concieve AND to adopt!!

We got married recently and it is only a matter of time before people start asking about when the patter of tiny feet will come - a question that I have had to shrug off up until now as I don't want family and friends to know about our problem.

Anyway, will see what happens on Monday. I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has been prescribed Bromocriptine.

Speak to you soon, Terri :)

Hello Terri

Welcome to the board, I am also new. I am at the first stages of infertility treatment, and also find it very slow. I am to see my GP on the 2nd March for my day 21 hormone levels, and to see how my husband's semen result went. We did go through some treatment a few years ago I was on clomid but was too scared for IVF. I feel ready now and can only hope things go alright.

I love posting on this board and reading others posts, it makes me feel somewhat normal and ready to take the next step to IVF.

All the best to you and your DH (darling husband) hope to hear from you more.

:P :P :P :P

:D Hello!

I am new here too, only found this site last week, its been great so far and the ppl here are great too, learnt more in this last week than I have in the last 2 and half years we have been ttc.

I know what u mean about ppl saying "when will u have kids etc......" Why do ppl assume just coz ur married that u will have kids. We have now told every one about the probs. the family, both sides have been great, but friends have now become distant, some friends have indeed said that they are scared to talk to us and be around us but some others just avoid us, both my friends and my hubbys friends ALL have kiddies!! Its hard!! I decided not tell ppl at work, they just assume I dont wont to be a mum! If only they knew!!

But I have found so many true ppl on the net, and my marriage has been stronger, so I am happy!!

Hi Terri, I hope your appointment went well today.

I have been on Bromocriptine for nearly 6 years. I have got a small growth on my pituatry gland and this causes my prolactin levels to rise so I have to take it until I finally get pregnant.

I know that if your prolactin levels are too high your chances of ovulating are slim to nil. And for most people a short period of bromocriptine can bring the levels down and they stay down. But I think your doctor will monitor you to check that they stay low, and if they keep creeping up you might have to take them every day.

You're right the waiting is very frustrating - we have been ttc for nearly 6 years and I seem to have spent the last 4 years waiting for appointments or treatment.

Let us know how you got on today.

Hi Terri,
Hope things have gone well for you today. I can't answer any of your questions but just to let you know that there are people here to listen to you.
I know what you mean about people asking you when you are going to have children. I tell people that I can't naturally have children. I am really open about it. This is my first ivf cycle so I might live to regret telling people. I will have to wait and see.
My friends and family have been great. I get emails daily asking for updates, and giving me cyber hugs. On the day of et I had so many text messages. So for me it has worked telling people so far.
It does all take a very long time. I got so fed up waiting that we took out a loan and went private. So fingers crossed the ivf works!

Hi Terri,

I'm also new to this forum (and site). I've already found alot of useful information.

Just like you I am new to IVF as well and all being well I should start the first cycle in June/July. Your right it does seem to take along time, I was told in November I would have to have IVF due to fibroids, had a myomectomy but couldn't remove them all. And I've been on Prostap ever since to shrink whats left, they are small now but waiting to have one last one removed ( its the one thats been causing all the problems but only found 2 weeks ago. So it looks as though we'll be going through things at about the same time.

Good luck and I hope everything goes well.

Thank you all for the lovely welcomes :D

I went along on Monday and was prescribed 3 courses of Chlomid which I was able to start straightaway - gues what I'll be looking up on the inernet all night!!

I managed to pin the doctor down and agree that if the Chlomid does not produce then we will start IVF afterwards. At least now I feel I'm getting somewhere, even thoough there is still a LONG way to go :)

I'll keep you posted - TRYING VERY HARD THIS MONTH!!!
