You're on schedule. That's when people say you're supposed to lose hair.
I'm not sure how much of it is actually spontaneous hair loss, and how much is a bigger baby getting a better grip on the hair. It doesn't typically come out when the baby pulls, but pulling on hair can cause it to come out later.
Hi Karen,
I've been away from the message boards for a while now, but came back today & saw your post. Don't worry, it's normal to lose your hair at a faster rate right about now. You are not going bald and everything will get back to normal in a month or so. At the very beginning of my pregnancy I lost hair at a faster rate, then I got a big, big faster growing head of hair(my nails grew faster too from the baby hormones). Now I'm losing mine again and it's not growing as fast anymore.
Hope all is well with you & your baby boy!
Take Care,

Hi there! I just wanted to share some info... my doctor told me that you actually lose your hair much less during your pregnancy because of the hormones... but once the baby is born and your hormones suddenly drop, you actually lose more hair because you're losing the hair that should have fallen during the 9 previous months. So it seems like you're losing lots of hair but in fact it's just your hair adjusting back to normal...
My two cents!:D

PMApsy is absolutely right.I'm a hairstylist and I can confirm everything her doctor said. It's all in our changing hormones. And sometimes it's worse if you are brestfeeding.Try to include in your diet a lot of calcium and vitamin B complex. It will pass in a few months.Using Nioxin (ask your hairstylist , you can find it in some hairsalons)it might help to stop losing your hair faster.

OK, so I know I posted the whole "don't worry -it's normal" thing up there but I've had a new development now.
As I said before, my hair has been falling out at what seemed like a faster rate and not growing as fast as it did when I was pregnant. I wasn't that concerned since I read that this is normal. I also didn't mention that I've really, really been fighting the frizzies since I got pregnant. Well, Saturday I got my hair cut and I let my stylist put in some layers. Turns out that I've got curly hair now. It looks good, but with the pregnancy I've gone from having straight hair for 40 years to now having naturally curly hair. Weird, huh? My husband asked if I got a perm, I explained "no, I just have curly hair now. I guess it was the pregnancy."
At least I don't have to waste time blowing my hair out straight anymore. Just put on a little styling product & let it air dry.

Hehehe, nice developement! I hope you like your curly hair! I have naturally curly hair and it went limp the moment I became pregnant. My hairstylist told me her mom had superb curls before she had her, and when she became pregnant her hair went completely straight... and the curls never came back. So that new hairstyle thing can happen and it's all the result of hormones!
Enjoy the Holidays!

It actually is natural for hair to fall out due to hormone changes. My nails grew like crazy while I was pregnant, however, the hair on the sides of my head at my temples fell out. I always wear the front of my hair up, but it made it look funny. After my son was born, or probably after I stopped nursing at 6 mos, it started to grow back. So now that he's a year old, I have long, straight hair everywhere but at the temples. At the temples it is short and curly (my hair curls when it is short). Hopefully it grows back to normal one day.

In general, when a woman is pregnant, it affects all of her body. So having hair fall is also a part of that effect. Having hair fall is really very common during and after pregnancy and you should not worried about it. It is because of hormonal changes and it will be fine after few days.
