Help - twin mummies or anyone else really!

Post by Tracey S »

I know I was pg not long ago - last summer and had these butterfly feelings at around 16/17 weeks but these were more like strokes and quite feathery and tickly. I took these to be quickening.
Then at around 19 weeks they turned harder - this I thought to be pokes but actually was my uterus contracting and Oliver had died as you know.
For the last couple of weeks - since 14/15 I have had fizzy type feelings - my midwife thought too early for quickenign but could not rule it out.
The last few days (I am 16.2 now) I have loads of "fizzy" type feelings - not around my tummy button like before but at the bottom of my abdomen and is almost like pins and needles but isn't cramp - I know I am making no sense but in the morning sometimes it is so intense I feel ill.
Is or can this be quickening - has anyone else got it? or had it (Jules etc) I realize that I will not relax especially after last time and it is around that time. I have a scan on thursday anyway and am panicking again that I will have a repeat of my 20 wk scan and they will tell me they have died and this is my uterus contracting. If these were light feathery type feelings I wouldn't mind but it is almost a dragging type feeling and almost like a nerve type thing low down as if something is dragging along my bladder. It does not make me go to the loo anymore and I don't have a burning sensation when I do. I keep telling myself that as there are two it might be more intense that with Oliver

Hi Tracey
as you know this is the first time pregnant for me, but my feelings seem to mirror yours. I have had no fluttery feelings, just a really low down pulling. It felt like something was falling out at first, but now I would describle it as tugging in my lower abdomen.

Felt the babies kick/punch for the first time yesterday, dh felt it too- brilliant. Other things are like blowing up bubble gum then popping the bubble, are how I would say is happening in my tummy. I am 20 weeks on Tuesday and go then for a scan.

I think, however my pain is bad again in my right side (where the cysts were last time) so I am just off to ring the hospital to see what they say.

Take care

hi tracey,

i don't have previous experience of mid stage pregnancy but i can tell you what i'm feeling. 1'm 19wks, i haven't had fluttery feelings yet but had a couple of light thuds last week, and early morning and late night have low pain around my bladder. i assumed its because the baby has been settled on it all day/night when i'm moving least. the bladder pain can be quite bad, but it's not causing more peeing or burning so i didn't think it was an infection or anything to worry about, just the baby.

tracey, beacuse you know what to look out for anything that seems like what happened with Oliver is likely to feel more intense, understandably. however can you phone the hospital and bring forward your scan. thursday must seem light years away. they must be able to squeeze you in even if early morning or late night or anything.

let us know how you're doing,

Tracey if i were you and with everything that is happened i would phone and get your scan early if nothing else it would put your mind at rest. I am having like tugging pains in the lower abdomen and at night i feel it worse especailly if i am turning over. I just keep thinking its my uterus stretching. I don't think i have felt the baby move yet but i get a feeling like fluttering.

Let us know how you are

Hi there Tracey - I'm not on these board so much these days (gone are the glory days of being in the top 10 posters!!) and have no practical advice at all (other than seeing if you can get an early/extra scan seems like a sensible suggestion), but just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and if I were religious would be praying for you too! You are such an inspiration and I just have a good feeling that yours is the story with the fairytale ending of a ready-made family with twins.

Much love

Hi everyone

Thanks for that - nightmare aren't are??!! Thank goodness Nikola is busy with her mum or I would be for the high jump - I do get the pully feelings but thses are like a soda stream in my tummy - maybe just because there are two??! and also because I have had mid pg before. Still have growing boobs and do have a noticable bump so here's hoping........
Will let you know - have asked my midwife to drop in next week anyway to listen for the heartbeats - just the thought of a scan and hearbeat check sends me off on a funny!
Glad you are all well - Lisa so you have the prods do you and you Phil - crikey all happening!
Alison how lovely to see you.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend

Tracey, you are a wally! I leave you alone for two days and you start panicking!!!

You are so clearly very pregnant - those babies are both growing - either that or you are seriously over-eating!!!!! You are definitely bigger than I was at 16wks and as you've seen for yourself, I'm hardly small!!!!

Now as for these dragging pains you've talked about - I had these, at about 12 weeks and am having them again now (only much more intense) and I was told by my consultant, midwife AND fertility nurses that its the muscles expanding and quite likely a sprained/torn internal ligament. This is much more likely to happen to us twinnie mums because there is double the pressure and double the growth in such a short space of time.

Please don't worry. Worrying will only make matters worse. You know that this pregnancy is totally different (in lots of ways) to your last one. You also know that the doctors and experts have said the chance of what happened with Oliver happening to you again is a trillion zillion to one (or some other mathematical number that is VERY big!)

I think listening to the heartbeats will reassure you and make you relax a little about Thursday.

Try not to worry - I don't get rid of mum (I mean this is the nicest possible way!) until late tomorrow afternoon, but we are just wandering around Ikea tomorrow - so phone me if you feel worried!!!

Hope you've had a good weekend - apart from the worrying!!

love nik.xxx

Hi Tracey

Sorry, I've not been online for a day or two. I was a bit of a late developer in feeling movements with my two - didn't feel anything till 21 weeks. But I did get a weird sensation low down not long after that. I 'phoned up the maternity unit that day and was advised to go into hospital to be monitored at the day unit. After a couple of hours of tests and having heartbeats monitored, it appeared that the strange feeling was a combination of thrush and the position in which Daniel was lying (and I had the same discomfort for the rest of my pregnancy). I reckon you should get yourself checked out for your peace of mind.

Take care.

Love Jules

Tracey

I didn't feel my two until 21/22 weeks, I had cramp feeling all the way through my pregnancy, and lost count of the time I phoned and saw my GP. I would phone you GP/Hospital just to put your mind at rest.

Keep well

Rang my midwife and she laughed - said it is probably them both kicking around as have extra set of limbs - ie two more legs and arms to feel than before. She is coming around later to check on heartbeats so will let you all know.
It is like a soda stream in there - she has put my mind at ease a little but guess until I actually get to the scan and then past the 20 week mark Will be a nightmare every so often
N - sorry to worry you!
Mags - how absolutley lovely to hear from you - I remember you saying that they were late starters - I suppose it is not long ago when I was pg so maybe the body recognizes the signs quicker - not that I could possibly miss these.
Jules - glad all ok and thanks - how are your two? and the saving up? dare we ask!
Everyone else loads of love

Dear Tracey,

I hope that everything is okay when the midwife comes round. I'm sure it will be, but I can understand why you're worried - after all you've been through in the last year. The midwife might have laughed at you, but please don't worry about calling people (midwife / hospital) if you don't feel quite right - they don't mind!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Tracey

Glad you are feeling a bit more happier today. I will check later on to see what the midwife says. On Saturday i felt like shit all day and had a pain most of the day but i was supervising all my lady friends cooking dinner for 86 men and i was tired not sleeping much at the moment (again).

In a magazine i got 'pregnancy and birth' there was some pictures of women and their bumps there was one who was 17wks with twins. It was the march edition and the new one comes out today but i thought if you are still having the bump crisis it might help to see what someone else looks like or it might not help at all.
