Hello BichonMom,
I am almost 7 weeks pregnant with twins and my RE wants me to be on the progesterone and estrace for 4 more weeks, so till week 11. He explained that since they shut down my own system to start IVF that I wouldn't make enough of my own. I am doing injections every other day and suppositories every other day.. I know it stinks, but hang in there- it will all be worth it!

I was pregnant with twins and was put on the pills 3 times a day (I know a pain!) and I stooped them at 8 weeks. My re said my body will have taken over. I was put on them after 2 weeks of shots cause I had an allergic reaction to the shot. I really think it depends on the doctor.

Also, do you have a Bichon? I have had bichons all my life and Love them! We have a little girl named Daisy and she absolutely fit in well with the girls!

My RE recommended until 10 weeks, but told me that there is absolutely no research that says it does anything after week 8.

My doctor keep me on them up to 12 weeks. I had cycolgest twice a day. I got really sick of it but better than shots. At 12 weeks I weaned myself off over about a week or 10 days.

32 weeks? Gaaaaagh! I think my bum would have shriveled up and fallen off in protest.

I was on shots/suppositories for 10 weeks. I begged off shots when my dose was upped to 2 ccs and I started getting knots so bad I could barely sit. On 1 cc though, I preferred the shots to the messy suppositories.

I was only on the PIO shots for a little over a week cause my body started making a butt load of progeseterone very early on its own...I hope that happens for you, cause those shots where terrible. A few tricks I learned, Make sure the PIO is warm, rolls it between our hands. Inject into the site slowly. Once you have all the medicine in, rub the area for a ittle bit and walk around the house so the medicine starts to move around....Do not sit right after you get the injectin, worst thing you can do.

I was on everything until 14 weeks...I had a LOT of blood tests before they took me off.
The progesterone is really, really important...you don't want to miscarry, and if they take you off of them too quickly and do not monitor (via blood tests) it's risky...request the blood tests for the 2 or 3 weeks they wean you off of the meds.
good luck

i'm only on prometrium still because i requested to be, both my RE and my OBGYN say that it's pointless, except in a small percentage of women who have a specific condition that's very hard for them to test for (can't remember what he said specifically about this).

they both said doc's still give it out of an 'old school' mentality that it should be done, although scientifically this isn't founded. theoretically the hcg rise, causes progesterone to rise...and this is despite taking away the corpus luteum after ER.
anyways- i want to avoid ANY issues, so i'm on it, til week 12 or whenever i choose to stop.

My clinic makes you take the shots till you are 10 weeks pregnant because your body doesn't make it's own after depleting it for retrieval, till 8 weeks. They said the cream isn't as good but she would prescribe it for me if I had any trouble with the oil but would only want the cream taken twice a day for 2 days at some point through the week, still do shots 5 of the days because it's so much better. I'll be so glad when 4 more weeks are up for me!!
oh, dh puts our oil vial in his pocket about 30 min. before injecting & it's nice & warm by then.
