How to Stop Lactation

Post by Mellie_1233 »

I need to stop pumping lactating so I can get my cycles going so that we can try IVF again for another baby. Anyone have any tips? I have a lot of milk and leak a lot and get very full and achy. I am trying to only pump ever 6-7 hours instead of every 5 hours. I seem to be just getting larger amounts of milk ovper pumping session.

The nurse said to put cabbage leaves in my bra. Anyone done this? Does this literallyl mean produce in my bra? I keep thinking I must've misunderstood.

Mellie ---yes the cabbage in your bra but it acts as ice packs. I went to doc yesterday and he tol.d me to take a shower and then wrap my breats with an ace bandage pretty tight-- and put ice packs on top or cabbage inside. He said leave it that way for two days and he said youll be fine. Of course change out the cabbage regularly and take anti-inflammatory meds. Hope it helps and let me know what you end up doing i may stop in after x mas.

Hi all,

Here are some tips from a blogger named Julia, I just don't want to steal her credit. Some of them you have already known.

"And the answer is: very tight bra, cabbage leaves therein, another binding mechanism over the bra with ability to put cold compresses in (I recommend bendable ice packs they sell for sports injury or frozen vegetables), and sage tea. You can get sage tea and Whole Foods, for example. It wouldn't be with the regular teas, but rather with the herbal teas in the natural remedies isle. It's not as stinky as you would think. After the first couple of sips it's even sort of pleasant. Oh, and I know it's something you really want to do, but please don't let the hot water in the shower get directly on your breasts-- it will stimulate more milk production. They won't tell you how long it will take to stop lactation, and it's different for everyone, but it took me three weeks."

Good luck!
