I have a questions for everyone. We have a couple of stray cats that have taken up residency in our back yard. I have not touched them but over the last week they have come in contact with my DH and touched noises with my inside cats.
Then this morning I was baking some bread and licked the spoon which had raw batter (raw eggs) in it.
Now I am worried. I called the DR. the other day but they were out of the office and I don't want to call the emergency number for this.
What do you think. I have always had cats in my life from the time I was 1 so I probably have had Toxoplasmosis but now I am scared I could have infected the baby.
I would not worry at all. We don't have cats but my FIL has a farm with lots of kittens and we pet them regularly and I also ate the chocolate chip batter last week and at my u/s things were dandy. I just couldn't resist the batter but I won't be making a habit out of it.
On the other hand, it can't hurt to ask your OB but I wouldn't head off to the emergency room. Go with your gut. That isjsut my 2 cents. Lots of family have cats while the mother is pg. Just wash your hands regularly and have dh do the litter box. I have heard not to touch that at all.
Good luck!

I wouldn't worry either. We have cat that goes outside and pet him .I was interested in this question too and my doc said that unless you come in direct contact with contaminated feces ( meaning putting your hands in your mouse after touching cats box or your cat licking you in the lips right after they clean under his tail-gross! ) So,just take a simple precautions .And not all meat or raw eggs have bacteria that causes toxoplasmosis.

yeah, I wouldn't worry about it either. I have 2 cats of my own and my husband does the littler box while we've got the buns in the oven. I wouldn't touch the out sides cats at all though and would definatly try to keep them away from your own cats. Not so much for the reason of them infecting you or the baby with toxoplasmosis becuase that's unlikely if they're not sharing a littler box, but because they could give your kitties something bad like feline lukemia or worms.
But talk to the doc to eae your mind and the washing hands advise is the best that could be given. good luck!!
Hi. I think you'll be fine. I'm in infectious diseases, but not an ob or peds. If you've had cats all ur life, u probably have had toxo before, but you can have your ob check a titer if you want to make sure. If you're positive, then there's nothing to do. I would still stay away from stray cats and not clean ur own cat's litter. As far as the batter, raw eggs contain salmonella sometimes...if you're not sick already after 2-3 days then you'll be fine. relax, and Good luck with ur pg!!
I am feeling a bit better. Still have not heard from my Doc but I have an appt this week and will talk to him then. I also just had to go over to my vet for something and asked them. Most of it comes from feces and I have not touched any of that so I think we are fine. It is just one more thing to worry about.
