My name is amanda and I am 38. I have made an appointment to go see my doctor on Friday about IVF. My past history includes an ectopic pregnancy (a stay in intensive care), two operations to remove cysts from my ovaries the size of grapefruits!. However I am now in a stable and loving relationship and desperatly want to have a baby. Would love to hear from anyone who is also starting for the first time.
Hi Amanda,
You are definitely not too late. I am coming towards the end of my first ivf cycle. From start to finish my cycle will last 10 weeks. Will be doing my pregnancy test on 13th March (so exciting). You really need to push the consultants and clinic to get you on the ivf list - and keep on chasing them. I found out that I had to have ivf in August and could have started ivf in the september if I wanted (but we had just moved house and so started in January). We are paying privately this go, but we are also on the waiting list for our nhs go.
Good luck to you. You will get lots of other posts telling you all you need to know. All the best.

Aged 32. 1st ivf failed March 04. Going to try again with my frosties.
Have a scruffy dog called Tobye.
You've definately not left it too late. I know I am only 27yrs and you probably think I don't know what I'm talking about, but I have a friend who's just turned forty and decided to try for a baby, she's had to have some fibroids removed but apart from that there's no reason as yet for her to go for IVF. I do wish you all the best. I haven't even started IVF yet but feel nervous just doing the basic tests of hormones. I was diagnoised with PCOS and underactive thyroid 4yrs ago and we went thru clomid treatment but I had to stop as it was too much for me to take emotionally; only now do my DH and I feel ready to go for it.
Keep posting as it does help lots. All the best with your treatment.

WISH ALL GOODLUCK and HUGS (they do help sometimes!)
you'll see from this site alone that you've definately not too late. there are many of us that have undergone ivf, iui etc in 30's and 40's, and some that went on to conceive naturaly (miracle babies). you'll see on the pregnant after ivf page that it works too!
Hi Amanda, just to confirm all above. I had my first round of IVF aged 38.5 and have a beautiful baby girl to show for it! I'm currently 3 weeks short of 40 and on my 2 week wait to find out if my transfer of 2 eggs collected and frozen during that first round has succeeded.
The maximum age (for the woman) supported by the health system here is 38 so we went private = no waiting.
I had my son when I was 40. He was conceived naturally before my husband's sperm worsened. He is a joy of my life. You are definitely not too old.
All the best
