slipping early in pregnancy

Post by tkh2008 »

Guess I'm looking for some positive words as I am a little panicked right now. I stepped out on the front porch, in sock feet, to pick up a piece of trash that had blown up & didn't realize it was iced. I slipped & fell. It wasn't a hard fall. I had one hand on the screen door & just went to bend over to pick it up & my foot slid. So I fell more on my butt but towards one side of it & scraped my big toe. I fell onto a thick rug in front of the door so it was a sort of cushioned fall. I of course immediately started crying not because it hurt but because I immediately thought of the baby. I am 7 weeks along. Does it take a pretty hard fall or trauma to cause miscarriage?? Or can the smallest bump like that do it??

I had a worst fall then that at 10 weeks. I tripped on a step that I didn't see and went down on my side hard. both my babies are still just fine and i'm sure that yours is fine too. I can understand being freaked out though.

Thanks for the reassurance. I just got so scared & feel so stupid now that I first stepped out in sock feet & 2nd didn't even think it might be ice. It has been raining & I just assumed it was wet. I'm not having any strange feelings, bleeding, etc so I hope my little bean is nice & cushioned in there.

You would be surprised at what these little babies can take. I have known MANY a pg woman to fall and MUCH harder with no problems. I always recall the lady who was skydiving and her shute didn't open up. She hit the ground going 50 miles+ and hour and she didn't know she was pg and the baby was perfectly fine.

Don't worry and if you can't help it you can always run in just to hear the hb. :D

yes, I read in one of my pregnancy books that falls are more common than people imagine during pregnancy (mostly because of imbalance), AND the author encourages readers not to freak out if they fall down. She writes that it has to be a pretty awful fall in order to hurt the baby since they're so protected by muscle, fat, uterus, and amniotic fluid. She even talks about car crashes and the importance of wearing a seat belt while pregnant.

Happy pregnancy, and just make sure to rest and keep yourself hydrated so your body heals from the fall (that is if you're in any type of pain).

Hugs.

tkh, just for some more reassurance, I can tell you that I actually fell & broke my ankle in the ice/snow with my 1st. He is now a beautiful perfect 3 1/2 yr old. I was about 10 weeks at the time and all was fine with him!! DON'T WORRY!!!!!!!!
