Hi all,
we live in the North East of England and are both 38. It is too late for us get NHS treatment by the time we come to the top of the list. We are having to look at getting private treatment and are considering 3 centres in the N.E.
These are The Cromwell in Darlington, James Cook and The Centre for Life at Newcastle. We are trying to make the decision on where to go. One is on the doorstep the others involve travelling. We have been told The Centre for Life is recommended. We were wondering if anyone has any recommendations or experiences to share. Also is travelling some 30 miles a bad idea - we both work full time.
Any tips would be welcome to help us decide.
Thanks,
S & S.
I live in the North East and have had 2 IVF attempts, one was at the QE in Gateshead the other was at the Centre for Life. At Gateshead it was very friendly and personable and you never saw any other patients, the care and the nurses were good but the treatment did not work. I then went to the CFL which is a bit like a conveyor belt and I saw different people every time I went, just about. They both did things slightly differently but I got a positive result from the CFL and am now pregnant with twins.
Is James Cook Hartlepool? I have a friend who has been to Hartlepool and Cromwell, so could ask her if you like.
My advice would be to make an appointment at all of the hospitals and go and see them, get a feel for the place, see how easy it is to park etc look at their stats, (although personally I wouldn't let them be the deciding factor) and then make your decision.
I live in Scotland so cannot give you advice there but i had to make a 96 mile round trip and mostly during rush hour. It could take me anything between an hour and a half to two hours. I also worked full time then and i found it alright. You would do anything as you know.

Lisa, If you are able to give us any info on the Cromwell from your friend that would be great as obviously that is the closest to us (although closest isn;t necessarily the best idea).
Did you feel that you got good support from Centre F Life?
Where did you park and what sort of times did you need to be there?
Thanks

Hi
yes I will speak to her about the Cromwell. I didn't feel that I got much emotional support from the CFL, we parked in Times Square a newly built car park next to the Arena and most of our appointments were about 8 - 8.30am apart from e/c etc which were later in the morning.
I found my own support network by using this site (constantly) and joining a support group. I had counselling during my first attempt with the QE but didn't bother with the CFL, although they offer the service.
Will come back to you, have you been to any of the clinics??
