Certain states mandate coverage. Check out the following:

http://www.asrm.org/Patients/insur.html

I live in CO but was lucky enough to take a job with a Massachussetts company so my transfers have been covered.

I've also heard that certain companies include IVF coverage. Names mentioned were Wal-Mart and American Express but I haven't verified that.

Good luck!

NJ mandates it... I work in NJ... Rather than look for an ins co that covers it you have to look for the PLAN within that ins co that covers infertility AND treatment... If your employer offers good coverage then you may have it but if you live in a state that mandates it then it is required to be covered but there could be stipulations within the coverage depending on the plan your employer chooses...

Let us know how it goes...

It should also be noted that even in states that mandate coverage, larger employers can get out of that by self insuring, because of Federal preemption. I live in Massachusetts and that's what happened with my wife; in the end she changed jobs and we pay for our own insurance (with Harvard Pilgrim, they are great).

I live in IL, it is state mandated but like PP said larger companies can get around the mandate if they are considered self insured. I believe for IL if you have an HMO insurance plan then they have to cover IVF. The IL state mandate covers 4 cycles, testing and drugs.

Good Luck!

The State of NJ mandates it for employers with more than 50 employees. But, it only covers the first 4 IVF's in a lifetime.
We are very lucky that on our 4th try I am now expecting twins, 12 weeks 4 days.
My husband and I looked into the possiblity of then changing insurance plans if the 4th didn't work and see if you then get another 4 tries but apparently they are all linked into one another and can find that out.

I live in CT and by law its required to cover 2 ivf cycles. However, when I called to ask I found out only "state funded" insurance covers ivf. If the comp. pays for its own insurance they have the right not to choose to cover fertility. This happened to me I thought i was covered only to find out insurance was self funded. I called the state to complain because I believe if its the law to cover it should be for everyone living in that state, but they said " if you had a private company you would want to have a choice of what to give your employees for insurance, of course most choose not to cover fertility because its so expensive and it raises their premium that they pay" so you should call your insurance to find out, I started my ivf journey before finding out and I wish i knew before that there was this other "law" hidden behind the "law".

Hey dys24 has your doctgor tried glucophage with you? It worked wonders for my girlfriend and she lost 70 pounds!!! Unfortunately when she started looking into pregnancy she was idagnosed with estrogen sensitive breast cancer and has decided that its probably not a good idea to carry - don't think she's at all interested in surrogacy (but even then she would be in danger with the stimulation drugs). Anyway, good luck!!! I am routing for you!!!

Congrats jerseygal!!! What wonderful news - I am so happy for you!!! I knew about the "link" as I had done IVF in 1996 (didn't work) and when my DH and I went for it this time in 2007 my ins co (a different co) said "you have 3 more triesas only 4 for a lifetime are allowed" WHOA! Scarey to think everyone knows all about you ELEVEN YEARS later!!!

Good luck dagnymichelle - lots of baby dust to you!

I am in CA too. I looked all over and couldn’t find any IVF coverage. My HMO (Kaiser) covered 50% of initial RE workup and would have covered IUI (except that wasn’t what I needed). I have paid all IVF and drugs out of pocket. So I’d also love to hear if you find any options.
