Hi guys!
Just a question - I know a lot of us on the north end have been slammed with snow this year. How have you been managing it? I hated to do it, because I'm not supposed to be lifting or straining, but I had to shovel 8 inches of snow for three hours yesterday just to be able to get out of my house and down to the street! (My husband had to leave for work at 4am, so he couldn't do it) I'm also worried about slipping and falling.
A lot of my friends are telling me to just ignore the snow and let it pile up, but if I have an emergency, I need to be able to get out!
How have you been managing things?

I think it depends on how far along you are but IMO I do as much as I can. If I need to remove some snow I try to lift smaller amounts and take it easy. Sprinkle some sand where you need to walk and just be careful. I am a firm believer in being careful but I'm not handicap like some people would make me out to be. I don't do heavy or difficult to lift and I'm just extra careful but I can still get it all done! Use your good judgement and of course no snow is worth getting hurt.
We are covered in beautiful snow!!! I love it! It's so pretty outside and our house looks like something from a picture book. When it melts we should have a real mess! YIKES!

Just my 2 cents. I live in NY and we've gotten like 8 inches as well. I would never dream to doing any of that. I'm petrified of slipping and falling or putting too much strain on myself. My babies are too precious to risk it. Besides the fact, my husband would kill me if I even thought of it.
If you feel like you can do it and can be really careful doing it then do just that, be really careful. Good luck and stay warm.
Hi!
I agree with both ladies. I tend to not let people treat me like I am handicapped, but when it comes to lifting, and things that are really strenuous, I step aside and leave that to someone else. If I were in your situation, I would either invest in a snowblower so you don't have to constantly lift the weight of the shovel, but then there is always that risk of slipping and falling. Sadly, I would probably opt for the lack of sleep and make hubby get up earlier and shovel for me while I cook him a nice big breakfast. I know that's super early, but it's just until you deliver. Good luck, and BE CAREFUL!!

Hubby is all too anxious to shovel while I'm in this condition so I'm taking full advantage! I think that as long as you keep your shovelfuls small and make sure your pulse stays below 140 you are fine (I've been lifting weights throughout my pregnancy). BUT, there is the slipping concern that the other ladies mentioned. I'd say if you have to clear snow go with the snowblower.

Hi,
Just sharing what a friend who has worked as an OBGY nurse for 20 years told me: falls are the most frequent cause of miscarriages in normal pregnancies. They are unpredictable but their consequences are not .
I am learning how to accept help. It is a humbling experience. My friends came in yesterday and moved my office downstair, leaving the room for the babies. I felt uncomfortable at the beginning but today I feel grateful because it would be impossible for me and DH to do that alone.
Talk to some neighbors (specially the ones who have strong canadian snow blowers), pay youngsters to do it...or leave it piling up. You have such a hard-earned prize in your womb right now - keep it safe!
Best wishes, Literatriz
