From Texas and new to the board

Post by Hope2009 »

Hi, All,
Glad there are some Texas ladies on these message boards!

Well, I'm joining today after finding out that my first attempt at IVF failed. We had really high hopes that it would work the first time. I'm just so thankful we have 7 frosties saved from our first IVF attempt that we are able to try FET. We're going to give it a try in Feb 09. I'm wondering if anyone has had success with FET that they can share? :) I think hearing something positive will get my spirits up again.
Me 30 DH 32 TTC 1 yr 6 mo
Miscarriage Dec 07 (naturally conceived)
IVF #1- ER 12/8/08; ET 12/13/08 (2 embryos/7 frosties). No HCG detected on 12/22
FET #1: February 2009

Hi, I'm in Houston. I noticed you've posted about having endo. I was diagnosed with stage 3 endo. I have some large endometrioma on my ovaries and a lot of pain during my period. Any suggestions for how to relieve the pain? I've heard about getting rid of dairy and meat from my diet, but not sure if anyone's had any relief of the symptoms by doing this?

I live in northwest Houston- Eldridge area. I've been going to Houston Fertility Institute- really like them so far.

I feel so left out...hehehe everyone here seems to be from Houston.

i do have SEVERE endo. We actually thought it was on my lungs, so I went out to Oregon to be operated on. Fortunately it was not on my lungs (that would have meant I would have had a hysterectomy). however, it was (and still is) on my diaphram. They removed 1/3 of the diaphram, so they cannot take anymore
Anyhow, my AF are always horrible. I used to not be able to breath without severe pain. So, they put me on BCP and my AF pains are not as bad as when I am not on them. Plus, I don't have such severe breathing pains.
I also have heard to change my diet, but not really willing to do that at this point in my life. Just my own personal choice.

I have done IVF twice, and FET once. The first ivf resulted in a live birth of my beautiful dd. I am debating about doing it again or not. If I do, I will either travel to Colorado and see schoolcraft(though since I have endo, not sure if he will see me), or I will come to Houston to the Fertility Specialists and see Dr. Craig Witz.

Anyhow....there is my story.

I was originally supposed to see Dr Witz too but the lady that set up my first appointment made it for the Katy office instead of on Fanin (a LONG drive at rush hour) so with me upset and DH fuming... Dr Chauhan came to the rescue. He offered to see me then and there so I wouldn't waste my time and has been amazing throughout the entire process of my 3 IUIs and my IVF. When I lost my first PG a few weeks ago, he sincerely cared for my health and my wellbeing- even offering to just chat if I ever felt the need (said it didn't even need to be about baby stuff).

I highly recommend the Fertility Specialists of Houston if ya'll are down this way or don't mind traveling. They know their stuff and they are amazing people. :D

We definately don't mind the traveling part of it. We are in North Texas, and for my three treatments that I have undergone, we have traveled 360 miles (one way). UGH!!!
Dr. Witz was not my "official" dr. with any of my treatments. However, he did my retrieval and transfer that resulted in my dd. His bedside manner is FANTASTIC!!!! he is probably my favorite dr. that I have ever seen.
Can you give me a price range of what the clinic you are at charges? All of this is out of pocket for us, and we have already invested 31k. So.......

So sorry that you lost your little one. However, it sounds like you have a fantastic dr. Those are really hard to come by.

I believe the paperwork they gave me initially showed about 13K for the procedure. I know my meds were around 2,800 but don't remember if that was included in the overall estimate. Luckily I have amazing insurance through my DH so I just have co-pays. Sorry I couldn't be more help. If you call the office I am sure they will email you the information, it was a formally typed sheet detailing the costs.

It was/is hard to lose my little guy. We have been trying for SO long and it seems like we'll never get there. My insurance only covers 4 tries at IVF and my first one didn't leave me with any extra embies. We'll just have to see how it goes from here I guess. We did decide to get a puppy though (esp if this next round doesn't work) bring our pet count up to 3 fish, 2 cats and 3 dogs... I guess I already have a pretty big family :D

Thanks for the info. That is much cheaper than going to Schoolcraft who is at around 25k. However, going to Denver we have housing, a babysitter, and free food. We will just see what happens.
So glad that you got yourself a puppy.
When will you be doing another cycle?
When we did our first IVF we didn't have any embies to freeze. however, I didn't care as I said we would only do it once. How wrong I was. The second time we had 5 left over. however, 3 didn't make it through the thaw and we have used the last two. So, we are back to square one.
I can't remember if you already said, but can I ask what your fertility problem is?

I am currently taking BCP and will start lupron on Friday. My target date for retrieval is Jan 30. As far as my fertility problem, we havent been able to find anything. All my tests are normal and DHs are better than normal. They think it may be something with egg quality but nothing definite. This last time they got 11 eggs, 6 mature and 6 fertilized. Just none made it to day 5 to freeze. We did a 3 day transfer because at that time, only 4 had fertilized and RE didnt want to risk it.

As for the new dog, we don't have him yet. My DH and I are buying a house and will move sometime in Feb. Right now we are living with my MIL and she would definitely not go for another animal in the house. On top of my 2 dogs and 2 cats, she has 2 birds and 4 cats! Its definitelycrowded in the house right now... just counting down the days until closing!

Well,l February sure will be the month for you. You will be moving into a new house and we hope and pray that you will be getting a BFP!!! I so wish we were cycling right now. However, must wait until the end of the school year as both dh and I are teachers. Travel makes it hard to do treatments as far away as we go.

There sure are a lot of pets running around your place. You must have a great mil. I am sure she will miss you guys and the extra pets when you leave.

I hope everyone had a great new year's eve.

My wife and I have our first appointment at Houston IVF on Monday the 16th. We have been trying to conceive for about 9 years now and tried IUI once but did not work. We have decided to try IVF because we just have a feeling this is what is going to work. We are anxious/worried and hope and pray everything works out. We want a child SOOO bad. I hope we get to add a BFP to the list :)

I wish the best for you and your wife. The first time I did IVF I did get a BFP, so we all know it can happen.
Do you know who your dr. will be?
I believe that is where my dr. who got me pregnant (doesnt' that sound horrible) is now.
