Hi Gals,

I wish you all Merry Xmas and the best for 2009.

Thank you for your support you have given me this year. Cannot imagine how I would have coped without you guys, your humour, love and support really helped me thru. Looooove you all so much xxx.

Jomae, I hope Katie is feeling better now. Pls give her big wet kiss from me.

Kerry, I will be thinking of you through Xmas and New Year's celebrations. Take care!! How exciting, a new bubba for the thread very soon.

Yours, Tigs xxx

PS. I must tell you something about my last xfer. On 15th Dec I did blood test for HCG - because they tell you so. By that time I had full bleeding and everything so I even told them there was no use!! And then on 17th I get a call from the clinic telling me that there was HCG in my blood, at weak level of 8 (pathetic!!!). So I had to go and get another blood on 19th because they needed to monitor me? Well guess what - the result was exactly the same, 8. Obviously it was not an on-going pregnancy but I now need to go and get another blood done on 24th Dec. What a bother!!!!!!! So I did really miscarry this time. Embryo did implant for little while but it didn't hang on, what a teaser!!! And now I have to hope that it has completely disappeared out of my body....so I am not happy!!! So I will let you know what silly result I may get (hopefully no HCG) from my blood on 24th. AGH!

Hey Kery thinking of you wondering if you've popped or are in the middle of popping can't wait to hear

Tiger wow that although a shame it didn't stick for good is really a good sign. My first cycle i had a Hcg level of 12 and the next one took my doctor told me that most women don't even realize when they are pregnant for the first time their body treats it as a foreign body and attacks it and then the next time they get pregnant it sticks because the body realizes whats happening. So thats whats going to happen with you youv'e had the practise run and now your body will know what to do next time Have you made plans to cycle again soon

take care JOMAE

MERRY CHRISTMAS hope you both have a good one

Hi Ladies,

I have a question for all of my australian friends here. I was just reading an article online from an Australian source and it talked about how common ivf as become. It also stated that the average cost of a cycle is $1000-$1800. Is that Australian dollars? How does that translate to us dollars? I was just shocked because the average cost in the United States is probably close to $15,000 and was curious why such a big price difference. Thanks for helping out my curiosity. :D

Happy 2009 guys!

Kery Kery Kery!!!

Sending big love on your way, yup let us know when you can. So excited for you!!

Jomae, did you have fun at NY's eve? My hubby and I saw Sydney Fireworks right under the bridge on the Kirribilli side, it was the best firesworks I have ever seen in my life!!!!!

purjo, thanks for hoppin in, I also wish you a wonderful 2009.

Michelle from US, hiya! thanks for visiting us. Re your Q..... I can't give you an exact answer on why the fees for IVF fees differ so vastly b/w US and Australia... that fig you picke up, average of $1800... I think it must be US$1800 so that is about A$3500? that sounds about right for my tmts (fresh cycle) so far at my current clinic - Melbourne IVF (www.mivf.com.au), but then I know OZ buddies that had fresh cycle at Sydney IVF (www.sivf.com.au) for example would have paid more so it's hard to say....... You know though - when I was living in UK my MIL's mate kept on going on about FREE IVF tmt I could apply for (?), all paid for by their National Health Service - now HOW GOOD IS THAT!!! we have never had a such thing offered to us in OZ from our National Health called Medicare!!

Bad news from me :(. I got my blood test back for my Iron studies and unfortunately the results were really bad. I am pathetically low on my iron levels and so I have been asked by my GP to reconsider going back on FET too soon... . I will speak to IVF doc when he resumes work in couple of weeks time. I reckon it is my excessive bleeding due to endo that is causing this deficiency. Anyhow, I am now taking iron tablets and changed my diet to include more red meat..... When am I gonna see my baby???

Catch ya,

Love, Tigs xxx

Good luck Kery!!!!!

Michelle- We have a public health system here which covers part of the cost of our tmt. If we spend more than $1000 out of our own pocket towards our health in a calender year, then Medicare will give us back an extra 80 cents for each dollar we are out of pocket after that. So yes potentially a cycle can end up costing around $1500(Au). But we have to pay the tmt bill first and then claim the refund later.

Our cycle cost around $5000 with drugs and everything and after our private fund kicked in and we got our Medicare refund, we were out of pocket about $1500.

I have always found it incredible that your cycles are so expensive and your medical insurances only cover it if your employer allows that in your cover.

We are very, very lucky to be Australian.

Happy new year to all!

Hugs, Em

Thanks ladies for the responses about the cost of ivf. It makes me so angry that it is so much in the US. I get one more try with insurance in my state, but if it doesn't work, then what will I do? Instead of spending $15,000 here, for the same price, I could do a cycle and see the beautiful country of Australia that I have dreamed about. It's crazy and not fair, but great for all of you. I hope soon the US recognizes infertility as a big problem and does something about it.

Hi to u all xx Thanku for starting up a board here in ozz its a great idea. I live on the sunshine coast, been here for about 6 yrs, moved out from the UK about 10 yrs ago and never looked back !!
My hubby and I have been trying for a child for 4 yrs now with a pregnacy early last yr but sadly we lost it at a week shy of my first 3 months... So we began this huge rollercoaster ride of treatments and tests. We started off doing 2 iui with no luck then and IVF we have just finished. Through my ivf, they got 16 eggs from me, but only 6 made it. I had one of them put back in just b4 christams, but sadly it didnt make it past the 2 wk mark. I'm due to go back in 6 wks time and I'm guessing they will use the frozen ones.. They did say that this time they will put in 2. However, i have been reco to have all 5 thawed and have put in what makes it. I dont know, can anyone advise on that one. My doc, is not too keen on putting anymore than 2, let alone 4 or more. The lady who told me to push to get them all in has had loads of ivf treatments. So i dont really know on this one..
Anyhow great talking to u all, well sorry more of me going on to all of u xx fingers crossed for eveyone out their xx Its a hard rollercoaster to stay on sometimes, but its great knowing that there are wonderful people such as yrself that u can talk too !!
