Constipation...HELP!

Post by CT_Michele »

My poor baby is sooooo constipated, I don;t know what to do. She cries like she is in so much pain, then poops a small hard ball. The dr said to put some prune juice in her bottle, and I tried but she wouldn;t drink it. I tried to stick a thermometer you know where, didn;t do anything. I tried to massage her tummy. I called the dr after hours and they said try baby food pears and if it doesn't work, call and talk to the regular dr on monday. Does anyone have any other ideas? Please, I hate to see her like this.

Is she getting pumped breast milk or formula, and if formula, what brand? Are you feeding her anything else?

Definitely take her to the doctor on Monday - she might just be sick - but you might also get some probiotics and see if you can get some into her - according to the directions on the label, of course.

She is on formula, and was supposed to be starting barley cereal instead of rice due to the constipation. She wasn't really ready for the cereal, so we have just been trying every 3 days or so to see if she's ready. When I called the office last night, they said try baby pears, which I happened to have and she ate them pretty well. but still no poo this morning. I am worried about switching formula b/c besides for constipation, she has been really good on this formula, satisfied, likes in, and so on. One time we switched to use some samples we have and she got horrible diahrhea. I am definitely calling on monday, but if she doesn't poo soon, I might have to call soooner and talk to the mean on call dr again

I had this problem with my twins right before they started baby food at 6 months. What owrked for us SUPER well was gently massaging a Q-tip covered in vaseline around their little bum. Immediately this helped mine. The thermometer wasn't as helpful for mine as the q-tip for some reason. Also, I went straight to baby prunes! Man did that work! I fed them each about a half a jar and it was a miracle fruit! A warm soaking bath also helped and relax their tummies. We had a short lived bout of constipation but that is what got rid of ours.

My Pediatrician said that the juices in bottles or syrups only work if you do it everytime and since mine were breastfed I couldn't go that route anyway but it just seemed like too much work for me.

Sugarbeanzs has been taking one of her twins to the chiropractor and her little girl has been pooping like a champ! I guess it got her intestines working better and her tummy is much less hard she said.

Good luck!

My 2 month old has been having this problem over the last week since we switched to formula only from breastfeeding. I started feeding her 2 oz. of apple juice, twice/day. I give it to her after feeding her formula, so she's not starving and she will eat it then but not before the formula. This solved the problem and her poops are soft now and painless.

I also just wanted to say that I could really relate to your post - it broke my heart to see her crying in so much pain while pooping out a hard poop. My pedi said it was "normal" for babies to cry while pooping, but I just couldn't believe that her behavior was normal.

Hello Hello there! Well I will tell you what has worked for us and our girls. In every bottle (mostly, I remember most of the time lol) I put in 1 tsp. DARK Kayro syrup. Then their poop is nice and mooshy (well, not all the time with Brooke lol).

Second, they told me prune juice (gave mine gas), white grape juice, or pear juice. Did not work for us.

If it is REALLY bad I will chip them (suppository) they sell baby ones everywhere. Do not put the whole thing in just a little clip of it. 15 minutes later you have a poopy diaper (sometimes like 2 minutes later).

Also, we switched from rice cereal in the bottle to oatmeal. We tried the Barley but they hated the taste. That seems to help as well as it does not bind to the intestines.

If they are already on food, prunes. I hear this works a ton. I dunno if Ella is on those yet though.

As stated, we went to the chiropractor. Worked like a charm! Brooke poops every day now! It is still hard but it is getting better.

Good luck hun!!!
