WEIGHT GAIN

Post by Neffi211 »

Just wondering for anyone who is okay discussing their weight....how much did you weigh before you got pregnant? How much have you gained? And how far along are you? I feel like I am doing well with weight, but some of those weight calculators say I've gained enough! I am about 34 weeks, I started at 170lbs and I have gained 17.5 lbs. I had some extra weight to start...actually the year of stress from trying to get pregnant gave me about 10-15 lbs so anyway....just wondering if anyone was interested in sharing.

It's hard to do but don't worry too much about it. People gain weight at such a different pace and I have friends who gained a lot in the beginning and none at the end and then I know people just the opposite. I was about 110 when I started and gained 28 lbs on the day I delivered my twins but I had a really hard time gaining. I gained 8 of those lbs on my 2 week hospital bedrest stay. Now I am pg again and no where near delivery and I must be close to 130 already! My baby won't be here until June!!!! YIKES! Totally different this time and although I'm not really showing I have managed to gain a little everywhere and last time I never even bought a single item of maternity clothes. I have a feeling I may need to go shopping soon!
Good luck and it sounds like you are doing great to me!

Hey Dear

I started with 166 lbs and gained 26 lbs  already!! Given the fact that I am short, this looks like a lot. But thankfully all the weight seems to be on the belly and boobs which I presume will go. (well. hopefully!!!)

Hugs..and happy and healthy pregnancy to all!!!

I'm 5'8" and I also started pregnancy at 166 and have been crushing the scale (oops! I mean weighing in!) at 172 lately. I am at 19 weeks. The doctor has a little chart that shows what is medically considered healthy weight gain for where you are at in pregnancy.
According to "A Child is Born," total weight gain by the end of pregnancy should ideally be about 29 pounds - 7.5 pounds for the baby, 1.5 for the placenta, 4 pounds for amnio fluid and uterine lining, 2 pounds for the extra breast size, 6 pounds for the extra blood and fluids in mom, and 7 pounds of extra fat for reserves. I can't really say this is going to be true for everyone, but it gives a nice guideline.
Really, I think a lot of this depends on genetics, how active you are, how you eat while pregnant, and what you do with yourself once the baby is born. One of my friends gained 60 pounds before delivering, then lost it all by the time her baby was a year old. Another friend never lost the baby weight, but I think that was due more to a love of nachos!

Hi Neffi...girl you are so close, dont worry about your weight!! I would have loved to only gain 17.5 lbs!!! I was 133 when I started, 180 when I went it for my C-section. The good news is my twins were born 10 days ago, and I am already down to 151. It drops off fast!

Neffi, you sound absolutely fine. I'm 5'7" & started at 125...I've gained 9 lbs in 14 weeks although they told me not to exercise the 1st trimester because of my age.
I read 5-7 lbs the first 13 weeks, then 12-14lbs the next 14 weeks & 1 pound a week for the last 13 or 14.
Everybody varies so much & i think it's safer to be a bit heavier than not gain enough.

Hold on to your hats ladies... I don't know if there is room on this post for my weight gain. My first pregnancy I started at 172 and delivered at 222  Second pregnancy started at 176 -delivered at 216   Third and present pregnancy STARTED at 221, and have gained 19 lbs as of last Friday. Although I am not on track to gain as much during this pregnancy, medication I was on prior to getting pregnant had my starting weight at 221!
Keep an eye out for me....at this rate you may see me on the biggest loser!!!!

You guys crack me up! I was horrible! I started (pre infertility meds) at 180 (I am 5'9" and big boned so that is a good weight for me). Then I did clomid and then the IVF shots and gained 60 lbs!!! So I started the pregnancy at 240...lost weight in the beginning of pregnancy. Gained 19 lbs when pregnant. So I was around 238 when I delivered my twins. Note, I am still at that! I have not lost a pound! lol. I have PCOS though which makes it hard to lose weight...so South Beach here I come on Monday!

I think weight gain is fine if your doctor says it is. I say eat healthy and do not over do it and you will be fine.

alreadyblessed~   I was laughing out loud literally! I am with ya for being on the biggest loser by the end! I was sooooo happy with my weight when pg with the twins and now. . . . YIKES!!!! THis is the healthiest house of food I know and yet I manage to score every piece of junk in here. I have even taken other people's holiday sweets that normally if they pawned off on me I would toss out. This time if DH tried tossing the sweets I'd probably dismember him! Normally I would get sick from eating like crap but not now. We'll see how things end and I'm sure jaws will drop when I post the final numbers!

It's so nice to know that you're not alone with this subject isn't it. With my first 2 pregnancies I couldn't get enough of the ice cream, candy and fast food. Thank God with this one, I am craving salads and fruit. The problem is when DH comes back from the supermarket at noon and at 6pm I ask him to go get oranges. He replies with "I just bought 8". My response... "so what's your point?" He goes on to tell me that oranges are good for you but not 14 per day. Then I threaten him with the closest cooking utensil, and he's off to the grocer again. It will be very interesting to see where I am at post pregnancy. Much like you Kholtan nutrition doesn't play much into my life. I can be found putting wheat germ on my kids farina, and then eating Haagen Dasz vanilla swiss almond with twizzlers for breakfast. My kids always say "Ma how come you get to have ice cream for breakfast?" My motherly response...."mommy had a nutritious breakfast before you woke up". Post pregnancy I will stick to my famous line "I just had a baby". I find that works well until they're 2.....then we're on our own ladies!

Hang in there! I started at 122 and delivered at 158 pounds! The first 25 pounds literally fell off within a few weeks. I have been left with 9-10 nagging pounds that require effort. Don't worry about it! It drops off fast!

Laughing about it does help! With the twin I was in my size 4 pants 10 days after birth! I have a feeling that this one won't end that way! Hopefully after all this holiday junk is out of my house I will have an easier time not eating it! I don't buy it and my dh doesn't eat it or buy it but for some reason the rest of the world thinks we need it. I seriously do not want to get out of control so I better gear down or I'll end up being rolled to the hospital.

Ps~ Ice cream isn't allowed here anymore since I ate an entire carton in about 3 days with very little of dh's help! Mocha Almond Fudge. . . who would have been able to resist that I ask?????

It's so funny when I read these posts. I remember with both my pregnancies that I lost 30 lbs quickly after. Then it was all over...anything after that was mine...ALL MINE. Kholtan...I'm cracking up because I have the same situation over here. DH is so concious of everything he eats. We go to the diner and he's like"I'll have scrambled egg whites on whole wheat toast and green tea." I then say" give me all the egg yolks he wont be using...a loaf of white bread, and one stick of butter. A glass of whole milk to wash it down plz". The "banning" of the ice cream is a great idea...although I can see mommy taking a quick ride to the grocer for some "toilet paper".

I started fertility treatments at 180 - like TwinMommy I was on the high side of normal at that point since I am 5'10". Gained some weight with treatments and was about 194 when I got pregnant. Halfway through I have gained 9 pounds.

My Dr. and my book both say it's OK to gain 20 pounds or less if you start out overweight. I'm on track to do that but heaven help me, my appetite is getting huge! I'm hoping to have the success that other ladies here have and drop that 20 (and with any luck, a few more) easily after pregnancy.

I look and feel best at about 160, so that's my ultimate goal. Perhaps we can start a post-pregnancy weight loss support thread!

Thanks for sharing ladies. It is good to know you're not alone.

kerpupples~ GREAT IDEA! a post pregnancy thread to lose weight. I'm already signing up! You've got me by 1 inch on the height. I'm 5'9" and like you, if I'm 160, I'm feeling really good. Sadly, I am nowhere in the ballpark......I'm not even driving distance from the ballark!!!

I cringe each time I have to step on the scale. Ironically, I am posting right after 2 nice hearty plates of pasta with meatsauce...oh and don't forget the buttered potato bread. One of the hardest things for me after I delivered my last DD was that I was nursing, and so many things I ate didn't agree with her. I wound up living off of homemade chicken soup and twizzlers. Hope I have better luck this time around.
