Early 5 week Scan

Post by suzhan »

Anyone had a scan at 5 weeks? I just had one yesterday (was 5 wks, 2 days.) I've never had one this early. All they could see was the sac - 6.3 mm. No yolk sac, no fetal pole, etc.

I know from lots of experience that the heartbeat's a week away, but just wondering if you had a 5 week ultrasound, what did you see?

Thanks.

suzhan -

first off, congrats! i had a scan at 5 weeks. i wasn't scheduled for one but i was experiencing bleeding so my re had me come in for one. they were able to see the same thing on mine...just the sac. they were also able to see where a second embryo had implanted and where a sac had formed but it had turned into a bleed so we lost that embryo.

best wishes!

I just had my 5 week u/s on Friday. I was still very swollen from the ER. (I had 19 eggs.) They had a hard time finding my uterus at first which got me a bit worried. Anyway, once they found it, we could clearly see a sac and that's it. I go again at 6 weeks where they say we MAY see a heartbeat but not for sure. Some women don't see it until the u/s after that one. Isn't this nerve-racking? I sometimes find myself worried that something bad might happen but have to learn to enjoy it.

Congratulations on your BFP!

Dinno rinnie exactly... at 5.6, just a fetal pole.

I also had one for another pg at 5.4 sweeks and just saw the sac, the fetal pole and yolks sac showed one week later.

I read the following after researching this like crazy.

The yolk sac should show around 5.4 weeks. The fetal pole should be there around 6.0 weeks. Everyday counts and a day off is nothing to freak about. The measurements of the gest sac is not that accurate but should be measuring within a week and a half of your date. The CRL of the fetal pole is much more accurate.

So I saw no fetal pole at 5.6 weeks, that was normal, in the other case no yolk sac or fetal pole at 5.4 weeks, that was also normal though the yolk sac prob was just starting to show. They thought they saw a whisper of something.
