I am 36 weeks 2 days with twins and have had a great pregnancy. I am uncomfortable now for sure, not able to walk much and feeling lots of pressure but nothing to put me on bed rest. Just volunteer house arrest because it feels like it could happen any moment. I am scheduled for a c section at 38 weeks, I haven't heard of many docs letting you go past 38 weeks and from my research most twins are delivered around 36-37.

I have read the book that was mentioned and several others and do not agree with eating the same amount as with a singleton. You should be eating more for sure. I am 5'5" and have gained 50 pounds. Your body is working much harder with two and listening to what she says about the protein intake is huge, especially in the beginning. I wouldn't obsess over it but I would snack healthfully often. The other reason, which is happening to me now, is that it is almost impossible to eat much towards the end. I have only gained about 3 pounds in the last couple weeks, and last week actually lost one. I didn't count calories but I did pack it in during the 1st and 2nd trimester.

I was freaked too. My fertility doc told me to prepare for bed rest at 30 weeks and said it was going to be very hard. That is not what I experienced at all. It has been great growing these two girls.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your story, Ruby!

Did you do anything in particular to avoid bed rest? or is it just the way things worked out.

I wish you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy and your delivery.

I put on 50 lbs with my first pregnancy, and a lot of it was in the first trimester. My doctor even scolded me. But I was so hungry! This pregnancy, I feel like I have no appetite....I am just snacking often.

Hey ladies, I was put on bed rest this weekend, yes at 6 weeks I was bleeding. Looks like I have a long way to go. It gushed for an hour and I was freaking out but it stopped and I had an ultrasound the next day and they saw two heartbeats. Hope we all made it through that. Also, due to the fert drugs I now know why I feel 3 months prego, each ovary is the size of a softball! I had a 24 inch waist so that is the reason, mega cysts that are growing due to my progesterone levels. So, one could call it bloat. They will subside in a few weeks.

About the weight gain issue, my gestational carrier will be 34 wks tomorrow and I believe she has gained a total of only 20 lbs. Her OB is just fine with that. Our babies are actually large for their gestation. I believe they are both about 5 lbs now.
