I went for my 20 week abnormality scan yesterday and thankfully everything seems fine. their sizes have nearly doubled from the last scan 5 weeks ago.
I am Rhesus Negative blood group and when I was admitted to my local hospital at Christmas with Ovarian Cysts they told me that I would get injections called Anti D every 4 weeks during pregnancy, from week 24, then after the birth. When I went for my scan at a bigger hospital where I plan to have the babies, they said that they don't give these injections. They said it was something that they had applied for funding for but hadn't received it as yet. The midwife said that I don't need them as I have never had a m/c, blood transfusion and this is my first baby. After the birth I will get the injection if necessary. They said if I wanted to persue it to speak to my community midwife, who probably won't fund it because I am under the care of another authority, or write to their Health Care Trust.
As their advice is that I don't really need it, but the Governing Health Body recommend it, I don't know what to do. Part of me thinks that I have had enough of needles over the years so if its not necessary why bother. But another part is worried incase its something that I should be having and may help if anything goes wrong.
Sorry really long winded, but thoughts anyone or is this happening to you?
I am the same blood type as you and have yet to discuss this with my midwife. She did mention about my blood type on Tuesday but did not mention about the anti d jags. She just said if i had any bleeding i would need to phone immediatley.I had read in the books that you get them at 28wks and 34wks so i will need to ask her about that when i see her next.
I have had them before after my m/cs and operations.
I cannot believe that they said they could not get funding for them what is the world coming to i would of thought that all women with our blood type should get them even as a precaution i mean they tell you about it how it can be bad for you and the baby and then expect you not to worry.
I would enquire further. I see my midwife on Tuesday so i will ask her about it (will wright it on my list keep forgetting to ask her things).

i am a little confused that thebigger hospital you mentioned doesn't give the injections but has applied for funding. this must mean that when funding is received they will give the injections, so why give them if they're not neccesary. it doesn't add up. (i hope i'm not causing you to worry.)
do you know if the injections are needed for you or for the baby, or a combination of both. i'd pursue it further if i were you. hospitals have been known to get it wrong... my local hospital is always on the bl..dy news, i refuse to have our baby there.
really i'm not wanting to worry you, but want you to check it out. maybe ask the hospital that gave you the advice first time.
AND.. great news on you scan. pleased that everything is going well.
Lisa
Glad all ok with the anomoly scan - re the bloods - it is advised to take them - peace of mind and if they are funded then I would have them anyway.
As for your history then I can see what they are saying but I would want peace of mind - do you know the cost - I know you should not have to pay but if it gives you peace of mind I would.
Get as many opinions as you can Lisa so you can make a balanced decision.
Funding - honestly - fed up with hearing it

thanks for your replies. Vicki hope all goes well at your scan next week - let us know.
I have made an appointment with my community midwife but it isn't until the 23 March, to see what she says and if need be whether she can fund through my local authority. I am working between 2 authorities because my community midwife is linked to my local hospital and I see her through my GP, but having twins I requested to travel to a hospital about 12 miles away that has a great special baby care unit and a midwife/consultant who deal primarily with multiple births. I thought it would be better to go there for the expertise and knowledge.
I just presumed that they would do all the things and more than my local maternity hospital, quite typical as nothing seems to be that straight forward.
I am feeling them move around quite a bit now, its great. We bought some wall paper yesterday for their bedroom, so planning to make a start with that so it isn't still smelling of paint when they arrive.
Hope you are all well, take good care of yourselves and those bumps
With love
I had my appointment with my midwife today and i asked her about the anti d jag. She said that they dont do it yet but it is coming. She said however that she will test my blood at 28 & 34 weeks and if i need it then i will get it.

Hi Helen
thanks for asking. I went to see my midwife yesterday as I am off on the sick at the moment. She said she would speak to the consultant at her hospital to see if she could authorize the injectings. She couldn't foresee a problem and has booked me in to receive them at 28 and 34 weeks, so hopefully that will happen.
She did mention that I shouldn't be picking and choosing the best treatment from each authority but I just pointed out that if you don't ask you never know and to be fair to me, i am being looked after by 2 health care trusts so each would probably be offering slightly different things anyway.
Overall, she was really nice so fingers crossed I will get the Anti D off her. Also got to listen to the babies heartbeats again, which was great.
Am starting to feel quite a bit of movement most of the time now and hate it when they are quiet (although no doubt will love any quiet times that happen in a few months time!!)
Take care all and good luck VickiB for Friday, hope everything goes well.
Love Lisa xx
Glad you are getting this sorted - what a relief - why shouldn't you pick and choose I say!
Helen glad you are ok.
Mine are twirling around a bit - especially in the morning but no kicks yet - too early I know - am 18 wks on friday.
WE have painted the nursery - did it at xmas but we had started it for Oliver..... and it was partly done so DH finished it. It now has a border which we did on Sunday and a carpet arriving next wed - how exciting. Hope I am not tempting fate

Hi there Lisa, sorry to butt in - I am not on this side, as I am currently trying to conceive a sibling for my little girl via IUI but do read the posts occasionally.
I am also rhesus neg and I was told that as it was my first pregnancy I would not require any injections. They said that when I had the baby, if she was also Rhesus neg then I would not require any Anti-D injection at all, but if she had been positive then I would have required one. Apparently although there is absolutely no risk to the current baby, the injection protects future pregnancies. I believe its something to do with the baby's blood, if rhesus positive, mixing with your own which can have drastic consequences for future pregnancies. My little girl thankfully was the same as me anyway, so I had no Anti-D whatsoever. I guess if you've had any miscarriages then they do not know whether that baby was positive or negative so would give you the injections during your pregnancy in case they were positive. Does that make sense? Any questions, please ask.
Hi all
Millie thanks for the info. I am at a low risk but one comment my midwife said was that you could have a small bleed and never know, so I wanted to be covered from all angles.
Another thing I have been reading about is Group B Streptococcus, which is an infection that could be passed on but hospitals in this country don't routinely test for it (money again).
Has anyone had or been offered this test??
Got my MATB1 today, I think I might believe that this is happening to me one day
TRacey, we have also started with the twins bedroom, bought the wallpaper and stripped the room. Plan to start painting next week when we have both taken some holiday and going to order pram/car seats etc.
I found out during my pregnancy that I was a Group B Strep carrier, but only by accident. I had a small bleed when we were on our way to Scotland for Christmas and the hospital that we visited in Crewe tested my blood for GBS.
It makes me cross that it is not routinely tested for because if I hadn't have known, my babies could have been at risk during delivery. As it was, there was very little risk because carriers should be given intravenous antibiotics during delivery. However, not all hospitals take the risks of GBS seriously so even if you were to find out you were a carrier, you may not be routinely given the antibiotics, which is silly.
I think that part of the problem when I was pregnant is that there was no reliable test for GBS in this country but I believe that they now use a more accurate test. I would hope that with my history I would now be routinely checked if I were to become pregnant again. But I'd recommend that you ask if you can be referred for a test.

TTC 5 years. Daniel & Charlotte born 22.03.02, 1st ICSI treatment. TTC for 4 further years. 2nd ICSI cycle abandoned, 3rd cycle BFN. Looking forward to being a happy family of 4.
I was reading in a magazine that a clinic in London does the test privately and it is only about £18, not sure if you have to go down there or if your GP can do the test and send it off. I am going to ask at the hospital anyway when I am there at the end of the month for my 24 week scan. Hopefully, I will get to meet my consultant then for the first time.
Bought my first ever baby purchase yesterday a pack of tiny baby body suits, they are soo small, also a pack of bibs and some new born nappies. People who I don't know have started asking when the baby is due, so every week it is starting to feel a bit more real. When I say July, they say 'oh you are going to be huge' and then I say that there are 2 they say 'oh you aren't very big then are you!!!!!' Is this the start of peoples comments!!! What is NORMAL anyway???
Take no flaming notice - honestly they drive you all mad - not down to bump size but the babies and yours are fine! Says me who is always in a flap not big enough - just had some friends over and they gasped at my size! So felt good again then someone last week said they expected me to be bigger - I nearly lamped them
Take care
Love
