IVF success rates for baby #2

Post by CT_Michele »

I know that everyone is different, but I am just curious and wanted to ask.

My first ivf was successful and I now have a beautiful 4 month old daughter. Dh and I are going to go for number 2 and plan to cycle in a month or so.

After one success, I wonder if it is more likely to work again? Have any of you been successful more than once? Did Dr's tell you that if it worked once it should work again or are we back to square one with same chances? I figured if my dr's got it right the first time that atleast on this try they will know what protocol to use for me.

So for anyone who has had 2 or more successful ivf's, how many tries to get a bfp for baby #1, and then how many tries for #2? And how long did you wait in between successes (I wonder if since I just delivered 4 months ago, if my body will be in "baby mode" and be more likely to accept an embryo for implant) Thanks for all of your responses in advance.

i do not want to sound negative, but in the end it's positive...

but here is my story.. 1st IVF cycle worked and we had a wonderful baby boy.. we started for #2 about 9 months after baby #1... we had many tries (i think 6 cycles between 1 and 2) and many failures and some miscarrages along the way.. we did not get prego till baby #1 was 2 YO.. .we had another wonderful baby boy... then we tried for #3 when baby #2 was 9 months... and many failures (i think threre were 4 or 5 cycles) and just about gave up on #3..thinking that #3 would never happen... but to our surprise.. right before our VERY LAST IVF TRY we got prego on our own... we were only given at the most a 5% chance of it ever happening.. so..there are positives and negatives for me... i do not know if you were or have done acupuncture, but i think that is what helped us naturally and helped #3 stick in there... i really think that it works.. something to look into if you havn't.. wish i found it earlier..

as for the cycles... for me.. they kinda knew what not to do, as i was over stimmed and understimmed... so it was just finding the right one.. i have heard many others say that their tries for #2 or 3 were quicker and easier, hopfully you'll be one of those..

my doc did want to wait 9 months after the baby to ensure a full recovery

i wish you happy quick success on baby #2

Hi Ct, I am curious to hear stories also. My OB said to wait at least 6 mos to get preggers again since I had a csec. My RE said whenever I stopped bfeeding!

I got pregnant on our first try with IVF. We waited 18 months before trying for #2 and lucky for us got pregnant on our first IVF cycle again. RE used the exact protcol for each IVF cycle. After we had our first child our RE and OB said to wait 9 months to fully heal before trying for another baby.
Good luck to you!

heatherb- congrats on such success.

I am sure my RE will use the same exact protocol. My OB told me 6 months in between, RE has not said anything yet. I am doing prelim testing and have consult on thursday. ER will be just after 6 months since my c-sect and i am not bf'ing, so i am guessing they will let me go for it.

If anyone else has stories about second try, i would love to hear more...thanks ladies!

Here is my story:

1st round IVF all slow growers but good quality - successful pregnancy (nothing left for freezing)
2nd round all slow growers but good quality but no pregnancy (froze 3)
1st round FET - not successful
3rd round IVF - good everything and successful pregnancy (froze 3 - 2 good and 1 not so good)
2nd round FET - successful pregnancy but ended in miscarriage
4th round IVF - good everything and successful pregnancy - baby due in April (froze 3 and not sure what we will do with them - probably use them but not for a few years)

Good luck.
