New here and need moral support!

Post by trawyn »

This is my first time on this board. My DH and I have been TTC for 8 years now. After TTC for one year, we went to the local OB/GYN for some assistance. After tracking my BBT he decided to put me on Clomid. I don't remember the dose or exact information as it has been 4.5 years since then. After 3 cycles on Clomid the NP called me at work and told me I had PCOS. I was terrified and began seeing a RE. My RE was very upset at my OB/GYN and the way they tested my levels and the diagnosis. They tested my DH and everything was clear. I was told I didn't have PCOS but two weeks later they said they that I might have it. I started Metformin but became very sick on it so had to discontinue. We were told the next step for us were the injectable drugs and they were very expensive and our insurance did not cover them. We left discouraged and vowed not to do anymore "treatment". 4 months later I got my first BFP(July 2004). Shortly after I began spotting. Needless to say at 6 weeks I m/c. The doctor was literally scratching his head since my levels were still climbing the day I m/c. We decided to adopt and got a DD in April 2005. I got my second BFP in January 2007 only to lose it that same week. So now here we are, 2009 and have decided to "start the process again". We found a new doctor and he checked my progest. on cd21. My level was 5.7 I began Clomid (50 mg) on day 5-9 of my next cycle. Several hot flashes and mood swings later I had my progest checked again on cd 21. It was 8. Today is cd1 and I will take (100 mg) Clomid again on days 5-9. It is a very emotional ride and very hard to make friends and family understand. I guess I am here because I needed some serious moral support! LOL

The good thing is you have time on your side. I think if you find a good RE and you are persistent you will be successful. You should learn to chart to see if you are in fact ovulating on the clomid. Not everybody does. Good luck!!

Have you been tested for a clotting disorder or a luteal phase defect? You may be a candidate for more testing... I pray for your good success!

Thanks for your support! My new OB/GYN will do Clomid and one other med and then will refer me to a new RE. I started my second round of Clomid yesterday (100mg). I am believing for a miracle so I don't have to take it anymore. I have not been tested for a clotting disorder or luteal phase defect. I assume the RE would do that when I see them. My OB/GYN did say that he thought the reason I was m/c was because I did not have enough progesterone to sustain the pg. So that was news to me! Lots of luck to you too!

Hi... not having enough progesterone IS what a luteal phase defect (LPD) is all about it. The luteal phase of your menstrual cycle is post ovulation when the cyst left behind from the hatched egg begins to produce progesterone which is vital to carry a pregnancy until the placenta is fully formed between weeks 10 and 12 assuming a fertilized egg gas implanted. A defect is when the cyst begins to break down prematurely and it does not produce progesterone long enough to sustain the implanted embryo - a miscarriage results. Also, REs do NOT do tests for either one of these disorders as a matter of course. You would have to have some history (which you do) and be sure you discuss the tests for these. You actually don't need a "test" for LPD because any good RE WILL have you on progesterone at least to week 8 but you would request to be on it to week 12.

Good luck and let us know what happens - happily looking for a BFP from you sometime in the near future...

WOW! Thanks for all that information Cocoa. Like I said I have just started with a new OB/GYN and he has told me more than the other two I have seen. I will definitely keep all this information and talk with him about it! Today is CD 9...yay the last pill!!!
