It depends on a lot of things. First, is this your first IVF attempt? Can you afford to do it again if it doesn't work? How do you feel about multiples? My first two cycles I did 2 embroys. The third time we did 3 and I am pregnant with twins.
I would go for two if it were me because it increases your odds of it working.
Hi AmandaM
This would be my first IVF. I'm 25years so I'm young.
I don't have any thing wrong with me it was my husbands swimmers mobility.
I thought putting 2 embryos back would increase our chances.
But my husband and family thinks we could end up with triplets or more.
How high is the risk of multiples with 2 embryos?
I will give you the numbers based on my first IVF cycle. I was told with 2 embryos transfered I had a 40-50% chance of 1 baby and 15-20% chance of 2 and only a 3-5% chance of more than two. Identical twins are very rare so even if 2 embryos implanted it is not very likely you would have more than 2 babies. Going through IVF does not increase your chance of identical twins, only fraternal twins if more than one is transfered.
How do you feel about twins? I am very happy we are having twins because we only wanted 2 kids and now don;t have to go through IVF again.
I'm actualy in the same boat I only want 2 aswell.
congrates on the twins by the way. Ya i was all over the 2 embryos then the doc said do want one healthy child or two or three that could be high risk that scared my husband. I wasn't scared I still say two. I know lots of people that had twin and there fine and that also doesn't mean that there both going to take.
Many people IVF and naturally have healthy twins and even more. The risk with twins is an increase risk of premature birth. Which isn't even that high of a risk. 37 weeks is considered full term for twins. And most twins are born 2-3 weeks early. Even if they are born earlier than that, with today's technology there is a high probability that they would be ok.
Good luck to you with whatever you decide. Keep me posted.
My wife and I transferred three embryos this last IVF cycle. It was our second IVF cycle since our first one didn't work. We had a total of 18 eggs, but only 5 turned out to be okay to transfer. We did two the first time, which didn't work, and three the second time and my wife is pregnant with twins. Just because you are having twins doesn't mean they are going to have a higher probability of having something wrong with them, i.e. downs, mental issues, etc. As someone mentioned earlier you just have a higher risk of premies and with todays technology they can do so much compared to what they could do years ago. Good luck.........
Destiny is not a matter of chance, it's a matter of choice.
Nurse called and left a message for me to call her back. Bad news is, it's closed now, so now I have to wait till tomorrow. I'm never going to sleep tonight... here's to a long night!
