What gauge needle do you use for prog.?

Post by mandeekins »

Hey ladies...so I'm starting my progesterone shots and this needle looks HUGE to me! The instruction sheet from the pharmacy says to use a 25 gauge. However, my dr's office ordered 22 gauge so that's all I have!

What gauge is everyone else using? Maybe that's why these shots are so bad?

the 25 gauge is a little small as the PIO is viscous.. you can use it but will have to press down a lot harder..

Most re recomend 22 g 1 1/2 inch .. I am very thin so get away with 22 gauge 1 inch..

I advise sitting on a heating pad before and after the shot.. no ice...

I had 18 gauge needles to draw the progestrone and 22 gauge to inject with. It looks big and scary but ice your spot really good and you can't hardly feel anything.

I thought ice was bad! I was told not to ice the area or I would get lumps. the oil needs to be warm, I was told to use oragel to numb the spot but to add a warm towel for a few minutes before and warm the shot with your hands. The closer to body temp the better. I'm not sure what is right, I don't do mine yet, but I'm gonna try that first.

I was given a 22G to draw the progesterone and a 25G to inject it with (swap the needle out after you draw). I had nightmares about having to inject with those 22G needles, I don't know how you other ladies did it! Yowch!

My PIO was in sesame oil which I think was some of the least viscous. Maybe that's why I got away with the smaller needle.

I pull it up with an 18 as a smaller needle does not work so well, though I have gotten it pulled up with a 22.

I then switch to a 22 for injection. I have injected with 18 by mistake (forgetting to switch), but that left a hole! LOL.

Its not as bad as it looks, though that needle does look big!!!!
