I am on my 1st IVF cycle and I have soo many questions. I have been trying to conceive for 15 months now. I had one ectopic pregnancy in my right tube inApril 2008 and when I had my HSG I found out that my left tube is totally blocked. My RE gave me the option of having my tubes removed before we tried IVF but my husband and i decided to just go for it with out taking them out. I am now second guessing that decision. I am just looking for other peoples experience with IVF and tubal issues. I appreciate any input- Jodi

Yes, I have experienced a similar situation. I have had a miscarriage and an ectopic in 2006 and I lost my right tube. I did not choose to have my tubes removed as I thought I do not need any unnecessary surgeries. If it turned out that it continued to occur then I would have had them removed.
Well, I had my first IVF in October 2008 and I became pregnant with the first try and it is not an ectopic pregnancy. According to my RE, the solution that the embryos are surrounded in make them pretty much stay exactly where they put them during the transfer. When I was able to see my baby on the u/s, he was right it was exactly where he placed the embryo.
The only time I was really and truly pregnant was before trying any of this fertility stuff, which ended in a misscarriage. When I didn't get pregnant again (and it took a while to get pregnant naturally), I looked into fertility treatments.
It was found out that my left tube was blocked. The re did not recommend anything at that time and I had 3 unsuccesful IUI's. When going for IVF, intially it was recommended that I try 1 IVF cycle to see how it went and if it didn't work out then to remove my left tube. I was lucky enough to get my IVF cycles covered at 100%. (the old insurance I had for the IUI would have covered it at 80%---so I even w/ the IUI's I didn't pay much). Anyway, I was told that since I would have 6 shots that's what I should do. Intially, I got approved for 3 cycles. Since I wasn't sure if I would get approved for anymore, I decided to have the left tube removed prior to starting any--just in case I didn't get approved for anymore. I was told that basically if I didn't have the tube removed, I would be at a higher risk of having miscarriage--something about fluid backing up in the uterus (??--it's be about 3 years since this all occured so I am not totally sure). anyway, I did ultimately get approved for 6 cycles and the only one that "worked" was #5, but it was etopic (in my right remaining tube). when they took out the left tube it was discovered that I have endometrois......
I stopped at 6 cycles b/c that's all that the insurance would cover, and I was extremely dissatisfied w/ both clinics I had gone to. I know that there are other clinics out there, but I am done. I feel confident that I did all that I could, even though I am extremely disappointed in the outcome.
