twin delivery vaginally or c-section

Hello Ladies,
Hope everyone is feeling good.. I just hit 13 weeks and am finally off the barfroom floor..lol. I wanted to get some opinions for those of you pregnant with twins. I would like to try vaginally if the conditions at the time are right of course, but most doctors just seem to go straight for the c-section route if you are a first timer.. Any thoughts? I went through so much to get here that I would not jeopardize their health, but would love to try vaginal delivery.

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with twins and im a first timer too.

When i had my doctors appointment she told me that i would have a vaginal delivery unless the first baby is in an awkward position.

So maybe you should wait till you see the doctor and see what he/she says.
My sister in law who is a nurse said that because im having twins they would do a c-section but for surprise the doctor recommended a natural delivery.

I also want a natural delivery but if the doctor says that it's better to do a cesarean for their sake and/or mine then i won't argue.

I am not pregnant or anything at the moment but I just wanted to stop by and tell you congratulations you are so lucky to have twins that is such a blessing. Good Luck to everyone.

For some reason the doctors go straight to c-section when it is more than one baby but hey why not try for vaginally but like you say unless it is safe ofcourse so good luck and talk to your doctors if everything seem right then go for vaginally it is such a great experience it;s worth it.

I am also just about 25 weeks, first time parent, with twins. When I started going through IVF my OB/GYN doctor told me if I had twins no matter what he would do a C-section. So I switched doctors.

Now that I am pregnant with twins, my new doctor told me the same thing that Anie was told. As long as the first baby is in the right position I can try a vaginal birth. She did warn me that there was a possibility that the first can be born vaginally and then need a C-section for the second.

I prefer vaginal birth if possible. I don't know about anyone else, but I am a little scared of either option. They will both hurt a lot. lol

Hi laides, twin mommy-to-be here as well. Just wanted to drop my 2 cents in. I also would like to avaoid a c-section and my doc told me that as long as the first baby was head down at the time of delivery it would be no problem becasue then after my first boy was born and every thing was nice and open (sorry for the mental picture that gave every one) it didn;t matter what position my other baby was in, all he would have to do is reach and grab him and pull him out.
I'm hoping that this is what winds up happeneing becuase I just know that I won;t be able to deal with the pain of a c-section. good luck to all you other twin mommies and heres to a nice natural birth for every one.

I had twins 6 months ago via c-section because they were breech. Anywhoo, they will let you do natural delivery as long as they are in position. They usually make you do it in the operating room though just in case they have to go in and get the other. Also, if they have to do that, the recovery is twice as hard as you are healing from a vaginal birth and a c-section. I can honestly say the c-section is not horrible at all nor is the healing. Just a few days were hard as would a vaginal birth.

I had twins last April via c-section...due to a breech position by my boy and to an Emergency C due to preeclampsia...

Frankly, I was happy to not have to make the decision...
Although recovering from a c-section is rougher than most people tell you (and I was in great shape prior to the pregnancy, now, er, that's another story!)...I was scared off a v delivery from stories that you could be in labor for a long time and end up with an emergency c-section anyhow for the second baby...I did not want my babies put in such distress.
That said, there are plenty of women who have v-births for twins and are just fine, probably in better shape after the birth than for a c-section!

good luck...you're only 13 weeks and I think the position of your babies will be the final decision! So don't overthink it.

My twin are 17 months old in about 5 hours. . . Time files! Every Dr. is different but my OB told me the that this was MY delivery and we would together chose what was best for me and my babies. I LOVED him for that! I knew it would be in an operating room regardless and not one of those homey bedroom settings but I was just fine with that. Can't control it all!

My attitude was I would go in with my hopes of a plan A(100%natural) if I could, plan B (C-section)if I needed and my plan C(start vaginally and c-section for #2) in the event of an emergency. This way I felt in control but always knew we would do the safest route.

In the end I delivered 6 weeks early with an emergency c-section after a placenta abruption and a 2 week hospital bedrest stay. It wasn't my first choice but in the end it was perfect and they had my babies out in about 5 minutes start to finish so I never had a moment to think about anything else. Twins are tricky and some OB's jsut don't feel comfortable doing vaginal deliveries. I think it's better they don't if they aren't comfortable with it since there are OB's out there who will try. I can't blame them since they are in control of the most important people in our lives.

My OB told me that if both babies are in the position of head down when I go into labor, he will allowme to the choice of going natural. If one is down and the other up it's a C-section.

Just to add...........my cousin had identical twins. Both were in the proper head down position so they went forward with the natural............as soon as baby one came out, the 2nd did an automatic flip and the feet came out right away first. She did have some difficultly with the breech birth but all ended up well.
She told if she was to decide now she would go for a C-section.

But once again, everyone is different and it's a personal choice.

Just adding my two cents.

I delivered my twins vaginally. Twin A was head first. Twin B was presenting transverse.

After Baby A was born, the dr. went in, broke the water, and delivered Twin B as a footling breech extraction. I was very glad for the epidural at that point.

But because my dr. was very experienced, he saved me from delivering both vaginally and C-section. That being said, your babies safety should be the top priority for you and dr. If I had to have a C-section, I would have, just thankful for the delivery I did have. Seriously the neatest thing I have ever seen.

I have twins a girl (brodi) and boy (Kyle) they are 5 past 27th Jan just though id let you know i deliverd naturally and loved every min my girl was born 8.05am weighing 6lb 10oz an my boy was born 8.13am weighin 5lb 6oz and only went 2 weeks early as i asked to be started as i was very tired lol as you will all know or find out!!! Be carefull after as i never though id fall pregnant on my own but i did and twins were only 9 months old when i did so it was very had work when i went on to have my 3rd child boy (Lewis) 3 and half now!!! BUT WORTH IT x x x

I reiterate what everyone says. They will let you do vaginal as long as the first one is not breech. However, be prepared for anything especially when it comes to twins. I had a great pregnancy up until the end which ended up being 6 weeks early and some times the babies decide for you as far as which route you are going to go. I had an emerg c section for preclampsia and I did not even know I had it until the moment it happend. Not to scare you, but i wish that more people would have pushed the fact on me that I just have teo wait and see because it can come as a disappointment. you know? Good luck just keep talking to those babies and to get them to go head down. I had a breech one most of the preg and then like the day before they were taken out my other oneturned breech as well. Little rascals.

Hi, I also wanted a vaginal birth and my consultant was fine with this, although he did re-iterate that with twins be prepared for a c-section. It was going to be in theatre too just in case. I was induced at 38 weeks as my hospital do not allow twins to go further than this, anyway induction failed and i ended up with a semi elective section 2 days later. I do not regret trying ans in the end was glad to get it all over and done with as i was fed up, i recovered well from the section and had no problems or sensations during the procedure.

i think it all depends on the situation...my SIL delivered her first vaginally, but then the docs were unable to pull the other one out, and she underwent a c-section - probably the worse combo as you need to then heal from both procedures....

mine have been breech and transverse for about 10 wks now, and it seems i'm headed for a c-section, but the docs don't decide that until the day of delivery...i can always decide to get a c-section at that time...

so if both babies are vertex - then vaginally usu., but other combos are usually c-section...
