Hi guys!

Becky, nice belly pic! :) Thanks for sharing!

Tkh: the reason why so many clinics prescribe progesterone, injections or vaginal inserts (pessaries) is because in a natural pregnancy, there is an ovulation. The egg is released in your tube and the follicle stays behind in your ovary. If the egg is fertilized, the embie starts producing HCG and the follicle, now called the corpus luteum, does not die. That's how your body gets the message that you're pregnant. The corpus luteum will send messages to your brain so it keeps producing progesterone (instead of switching to estrogen and make AF start). Given that the placenta won't be fully mature until week 10-12, the corpus luteum has to stay alive that long to make sure that progesterone is still produced in sufficient amounts.

During IVF, both the follicle and egg are retrived. So, given that there are no follicle left behind in the ovary, it can't turn into a corpus luteum and do its natural job. That's one of the main reasons why doctors will prescribe progesterone right after egg retrieval, because your body hasn't ovulated and the placenta isn't mature enough. Taking progesterone during the first trimester also reduces the risks of miscarriage. Some docs feel comfortable stopping the progesterone at 10 weeks, while others play it safe and wait until week 12. It depends on many factors. Be prepared, though... it's very common to have brownish discharge a couple of days after you stop taking progesterone. It's absolutely normal and it's not the baby bleeding. It happened to me, lasted a couple of days, and then stopped. No big deal. Had I not been warned, I wouldn't have appreciated the surprise...

I guess the logic of Becky's doctors is that, given that many follicles are artificially stimulated and not retrived during the procedure, some will hatch and there will be at least one corpus luteum in her ovaries, which will be kept alive by the HCG her baby(ies) is/are producing. So, even if her placenta(s) is/are not mature yet, her body produces enough progesterone. But maybe Becky was told another explanation?

Cheerio!

Welshgirl38, Based on your pic.. I can see that you are beginning to show but other than that, you look pretty thin! Why are you losing weight? Is your doctor aware of your dieting? I have always heard that now is not the time to be losing weight. Have you gotten your 1st ultrasound yet? I would bet that you are having twins!

HI Welshgirl:

Yes I am showing but I have had 3 children a long time ago and the Uterus never really goes back completly and my peri said I will show much sooner then normal since it is growing to hold 3 babies.

We put back 3 hatching blast. To our surprise they all latched on and are growing. We are however a bit concerned about baby C, her heart rate at our 6w1d US was only 90 and her sac was 1/2 the size of A and B's.. Our RE gave her a 50/50 chance.. We will see this Monday at our next U/S..

Like my past 3 pregnancies, I hsve no morning sickness, just very tired all the time tender breast. Ihad heartburn, but that has eased up.. I just wish someone can give me a boost of energy..

Keep us posted on your progress.

Pretty Thin!!!! Jeeze, i aint been called that in Years lol.... My Dr told me it was fine to loose weight up untill the baby is 16 weeks - that there is no reason to put any on, and that whatever i eat now, the baby will take what it needs. just like women who get really bad morning sickness an have to be admitted to hosptial, they lose weight too, but the baby is fine.
The diet class i go to also has a section for pregnant women an how to eat healthy foods which are good for u an growing baby. We have charts that my midwife will fill out, an then i take back to the class consultant, she too will fill out my wieight loss/gain, an then i go back to midwife an so on .... if any problems arise concerning my putting on too much weight, or losing too much weight, this way im weighed every week an kept an eye on more than a normal woman in pregnancy would.
I am actually 3 stone overweight and am at risk of many things occuring between now an the birth - so i am sticking to a healthy diet, an if i lose a couple of pounds along the way, an providing the baby is fine - then im happy with that ...

I cant belive u think i look thin lol .....

Wooo hoooo - u made my day ha ha!! xxx

Hiya, like u too - my 2 children were born a long time ago - they are aged 20 and 18 now - but i do belive that even tho there is such a long gap, that i will show quicker on this one than the others. Its a known fact that the more children u have, the sooner u show on each one, the quicker each labour gets, an also each child is heavier (altho in ur case, having 3 that would be different)
I do hope baby C is ok ... an i wish u good luck for ur next scan. I never got any sickness on my last 2 pregnancies either - i havent actually been sick on this one, but have felt it a lot ... my boobs are really sore, an im getting a lot (what feels like) AF pains ... i dont like getting those, but as a lot of ladies have said - its normal ... so im trying not to worry too much (ha ha!!)

Sophie: As always, thank u for the explanation - the clinic didnt actually explained to me why they went gioving me anymore - but just said they only give for women who have FET - so i accepted that, an so far so good ... fingers crossed this wee one stays put for the suration ... roll on my scan date (Jan 5th) i will be 9 weeks by then .... an proberly massive LOL

Xxxx

Hi Ladies, Becky love the bump!!!

Re the progesterone, I asked my clinic about this as i took more on an FET than a fresh cycle. Sophie's answer was the same as my clinic, it is given on a fresh cycle as a precaution, it is neccesary in a medicated FET. Hope this helps.
One thing i have noted is the US clinics seem to do everything to the max, i never once had my progesterone checked.

Good luck to you all, enjoy your your pregnancies.

I'm 4.5 weeks and so bloated. can't button even my fat jeans! I know I've been gaining weight since the meds - couldn't really exercise. Anyone know when it's ok to exercise? Such as the eliptical, light weights for arms, maybe prenatal yoga?
