Twins-Baby clothes size

Post by AmandaM »

Hey everyone

I have a question for those of you who have twins already. I have been shopping ahead of time for baby clothes, so that if and when I go on bed rest I still got to pick some things out. I was guessing that with twins they would weigh between 5 and 6.5 lbs when they are born. So I have been buying mostly 0-3 month old clothes since they fir up to 12lbs

Recently people have been telling me they won't last all summer and that I should be buying 3-6 month old clothes.

The question is how quickly did they put on weight and do you think that 0-3 month old clothes would actually fit until they are 3 months old.

Thanks
Amanda

It will all depend on how long you carry your twins. Mine were born at 37 weeks and were healthy weights...6.6 and 5.11.
We barely touched the newborn clothing...they grew quickly, as they were quite long...

Also, it depends on how often you will do laundry. If you have help--a nanny or mother or sister or someone helping you -- you'll do laundry daily (we did)...so the babies will wear the same stuff over and over.

I guess formula, bottles (if you are not BFing), diapers...and loving hands to hold them were most important for us!
Congratulations and good luck!

Well mine were preemies and were in preemie clothes for a long time. I still only had like 6 outfits in preemie and I put them in newborn to sleep at night as they were a little big but not much. Mine were in newborn clothes for the longest time...up until like 10-12 lbs? It really depends on the brand.

They were 4 lbs and 5 lbs when they came home and were in preemie. Newborns were huge on them for a long time. Then 0-3 months they just outgrew and are 14 and 15 lbs. They now can wear 3-6 months. (They are 6 months old).

Honestly, I did laundry every other day because they have reflux and went through clothes fast. Use the same outfits over and over because it gets expensive with twins. Laundry is cheaper than buying tons of outfits they will outgrow. Shop at second hand stores. The clothes are usually in great condition because full term single babies go through clothes so fast they usually wear them once.

I would say if you bottle feed, make sure you have enough bottles to get through a whole day because washing bottles 2-3 times a day is horrible. Also, make a lot of formula to last you 24 hours and heat it up when you need it. That will save you time. A great book to get is....Ready Or Not Here We Come....funny and all about what to expect with twins.

I TOTALLY ditto Woodcliff on this... my babies were born 3 1/2 weeks early and they wore their newborn clothes for one month. They were pretty big for that gestational age too - 6.7 and 6.3...I do laundry everyday so they DO wear the same outfits a lot - still...
