Lost twin A at 16 weeks

Post by Marina_A »

Hi girls,
I have a question, maybe somebody can share if you have heard about similar situation.

I'm almost 16 weeks pregnant and today we got a bad news-u/s showed one of the babies doesn't have a h/b ,it stopped they said about 24 hours ago.
My doctor seems to be optimistic and tells us 99% the other is fine and will make it to delivery( they have a separate sacs and placentas). But last year I lost my baby(singletone) at exactly the same time-16 weeks! They did not find anything wrong with the baby or me.We are just in shock.

Did anybody have this happen? How it's going to affect the other baby?

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost baby B at 9 weeks and was scared to death for baby A. I am now 36.5 weeks and all is going well.

I wish when I founf out we were having twins my dr would have informed us that 1 in every 4 twin pregnanies will loss a twin. It is very, very common, and most all go on to have a healthy singleton pregnancy.

Good luck!!

Thanks Dakota,
I started out with triplets and we lost one between 7 and 8 weeks.I still have an empty third sac in there. But now we are 16 weeks and the baby is pretty big.I worry because they don't really give me an answer WHAT happens to this baby.Is it going to miscarry? ,cause an infection? premature labor?
I know they didn't worry about that third sac at that point, but what about this one now?

I am so sorry to hear that you lost of one your babies. That is so terrible. You mentioned that this happened to you before and that your doctor doesn't know what happened. Have you been checked for a blood clotting disorder? I saw something on tv about that a few weeks ago.

I'm sure you will have a healthy baby with the other one.

Again I am so sorry you lost your baby.

Hi Marina,
I am sorry to hear about your loss. I think that baby A will just stay there until delivery. My understanding is that it will just kind of mummyify (sp? - not sure it is every a word) and just stay there wrapped in its sack until you deliver the other one. I think at this stage it should not cause any other complications.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Marina, I am so sorry for this second loss. I have had the fear of the exact same thing happening with my triplets, so I have dont alot of reading on the outcome of fetal loss. Seems that the first loss will not have any effect on your pregnancy since it was at the embryo stage and the body will reobsorb that baby. Your twin loss should not effect your other baby since they neither share a placemta nor an amniotic sac. Most likely you will deliver that baby when you deliver and they will be able to biopsy the fetus and determine what went wrong.

I am very, very sorry and hope that all the support we can give you makes your loss just a bit easier.

Hi there, I'm so sorry this has happened. I have heard of this before and I believe since it has happened so late, you will end up delivering both. I would as my doctor is I were you.

I just want to say that I am very sorry that you have had the 2 losses, and I wish you a good, healthy delivery with your pregnancy!

It sounds like you still have questions for the doctor that have been unanswered. Make an appointment and ask him about your specific questions, ie: the size of the fetus, your concerns about it disrupting the pregnancy, etc.

May you be well and handle the emotional aspects of this as well...it's not easy getting such news, and few people are prepared to talk to you about it!

Best to you

Girls,
Thank you for the kind words!
Yes,I do have all these questions in my head, but it seems like doctors don't really tell you because they can't garantie anything. They are in a "wait and see" game. They are going to see me every week and check my blood for clotting problems now.
We also went to see the other baby today-so far so good,he was active and h/b was 160 and he had a hiccups. It was a relief... for now.
I just can't imagine it in my mind that there is going to be a dead baby inside of me the whole time.

Hi,
Sorry you have to go through this stressful experience, still having to remain calm for your surviving twin.
Did you have any invasive exam completed recently? Doctors are reluctant sometimes in recognizing that some losses are related to investigative genetic testing. Another possible factor (and it seems that you do have dizygotic twins) is the reaction to the genetic material of one of the twins - something that cannot be found out right now but makes one believe that the other is doing OK and will continue to do so.
The important thing now is to trust your body - it will encapsulate the baby who didn't make it and protect you and the other fetus.
Hope you cross the 16th week and go forward to a nice full term delivery!
