How do you respond to people...

Post by cymplicity27 »

Hi! My name is Cynthia, I'm 29 hubby 26 and we've been TTC for 2 years. I started seeing a fertility specialist back in November and after a HSG last week, got the news my choices were surgery or IVF. We chose IVF. I go to a mandatory class on Tuesday to officially start the process. Yaay!

I don't have many questions about the process yet (just kinda lurking around on the board, hehe) but I do have a general question. How do you respond to insensitive people (although it's not their intention) who continuously ask are you prego yet? What are you waiting for? And my personal favorite "you know, to get pregnant you need to do it like this...this many times..at this time of the month". Uggghh! If I have one more person tell me how and when to have sex to make a baby, I'm going to scream!! LOL

Anyway, just wondering if other people go through this and how you respond. I personally don't want to shout to the world that my tubes are screwed up and I can't get pregnant the "natural" way no matter how hard I try. Then you're automatically given the pity face like you just told them you have 1 week to live, lol. Anyway, can't wait to hear from you!

Hi Cynthia,

First off good luck on your first IVF cycle, it's definately a road that only people who have done it can understand. My wife and I were just straight up with people. We told them to stop asking us about it and when the time was right and it happened they would know about it. We also just frankly told people, "no offense, but tell us what to do or give us advice on something we have been trying to achieve for over 3 years!" We realized people were just trying to help, but the people who try once and it works for them don't even understand and can't relate on the same level. Just be honest with people and either they will accept that or they won't.
Destiny is not a matter of chance, it's a matter of choice.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!! Like you I will be begining IVF soon the end of march. I am 27 almost 28 and have been married almost 7 years. I know what you mean about people telling you what to do and how to do it. I really had a question. What classes? This is the 2nd Dr that I have seen and never heard of classes. My husband is currently working in Peru and we found the best Fertility Dr in the country and he never said anything about classes. well GOOD LUCK and thanks for listening.

Hi Ivey,

It was really more like an information session, they just call it a class. They basically went over the entire process and let you practice the injections on this weird fleshy thing, lol. You do know about the injections right?? It's the one thing I learned in the class. I'd heard people mention them but had NO CLUE how many would be involved on a daily basis! Other people have told me their clinics either offer a group class or an online course. I actually didn't find out about mine until one week before so maybe they will let you know closer to the start of your cycle?? They'll get you all the information somehow though
