Placenta Previa - 1st Trimester

Post by cocosmomma »

Anyone out there diagnosed with placenta previa in their first trimester? I was over the weekend after waking up to heavy bleeding. Babies are fine, but I am on modified bed rest for 3 weeks. Just wondering if there were any stories out there.

I have it too, was first identified during my nuchal U/S at 12 weeks. It was still present at the 20 week scan and we'll be doing another U/S at 28 weeks to see if it's moved. Not optimistic because my placenta looked to be implanted right next to the cervix.

Unlike you, I haven't had any bleeding. Knock on wood! You're early enough that there's still a good chance it will move. Sorry to hear about the bedrest. Good luck hon!

How are you doing with your bedrest? You should check in on the multi threads here, lots of those ladies are on bedrest and they seem to have some good ideas of how to stay busy.

I was diagnosed with PP at 7 weeks, I had 3 weeks of bleeding but mine is on the edge and looks like it may move. What my RE said was in the first trimester often times it grows outward with your uterus and it will sorta move toward the area where it can get nutrience, it doesn't get nutriance from your cervix so it is drawn to your uterus. There are three forms, the placenta can be 100% over the cervix, 50% (or so over it) or the edge can be over it.

Mine is the edge one which often times "cures" itself as you grow expecially if diagnosed in the first trimester, that is the best time if it is to "cure" itself. The other cure is C-Section, no real risk to the baby with this issue that I know of. It is scary as hell to see the blood and be on bedrest!! It sucks but will be worth it in the end!

I look at it as a mixed blessing, I also have and incompetent cervix from a surgery 8 years ago to remove precancerous cells on my cervix, so if the placenta keeps the babies in, so be it!!!

All my best,
