Question for Twin Mommies

Post by Annie973 »

My sister has a set of twins and swears the only car that will hold two infant car seats is a mini-van. Please tell me this isnt true. I swore I would never get one lol. Does anyone have a sedan or suv that holds two infant car seats? Thanks for your help!

Annie

I am in the same position you are in. I am expecting twins, and had a Honda civic. I looked around a lot at new cars. It isn't so much the car seats, but everything else. Twin strollers are big. Plus, if you wanted to go away for a weekend you would need a bag with you clothes, their clothes, pack in play etc. So we decided to get a mini van even though like you i never thought I would have one.

Actually, 6 weeks later I really like my van.

Hmm...I didn't think about this problem yet!But why can't you put 2 car seats?Or by the law they have to be only in the middle ?
I have Toyota Matrix and almost every double stroller fits there with some extra room for other things.

We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it fits both car seats fine. Stroller in the back! I had a honda civic but the car seats made the front seats have to go up way too far and I am tall so that did not work with me...otherwise they would have fit in there.

We have a Tahoe with two captains chairs in the middle and they fit fabulously. There is no law as to where you can place them either.Obviously, they don't go inthe front but that doesn't even really need to be said.

Two car seats should fit in almost all and any car but it's a matter of comfort and how easy they are to get in and out. All SUV's should be great and of course the mini van if you want to go that route. Good luck!

I think almost all SUV's will hold two car seats. The problem is trying to get three in across the back seat so the back of the car is free for strollers etc. I had to really hunt to find something that will hold 3 car seats.

Hi, I have a Hyundai Tuscon which is a small SUV (i'm not sure if you have them in th US) but anyway I have three carseats it it easily. When I knew I was expecting Addy, I measured every back seat of every car in Australia and found that their is not that much difference in them all and that minivans actually have less boot space which you need lots of when you start carting around prams, nappy bags etc.

In Oz we have compact car seats which are designed to fit 3 across a back seat and this is what we have done.

I so hear you on the mini-van....I said I would never get one either!

Oh...I say get over that and get you a mini. I have one provided by my job and love it. It holds so much and you soon forget you never wanted one. Especially, when you try to cram a bunch of _ _ _ _ into something small. My husband who even hated "the white stallion" LOVES it now! :) :)

Annie...We have a Tahoe and Infiniti M35, both can fit twin seats. The catch is the stroller!!! The Tahoe is no problem for the stroller, but the M35...no dice. So my DH now gets my M35 and I get the huge Tahoe, now that is a bummer!!!!!!!!

I think with 2 there are many options.

It's when the 3rd child comes along that the 'mini van' rears its ugly--and I mean considerably ugly--head.

I hate MVans ... but hope to have a 3rd ... OY
