How long after breastfeeding did it take you to get your period back? I pumped for 2 months, tapered off over about a week, and haven't pumped milk since Dec. 26th. I haven't gotten my period yet and I just wondered if that was normal.
I stopped pumping on Dec. 10th and got my first period about two weeks later and then again exactly 28 days later in January. I guess my body just snapped back into it's old rhythm pretty fast. I wasn't getting much milk all along though so perhaps the cycle started earlier than I thought. If you are concerned, call you ob-gyn. He/she should be able to give you a rough estimate of what is "normal" for the return of your cycle.
Thanks, Gecko. You're right, so I called my obgyn office. I spoke w/the PA and she said that up to 6 months was normal. I tried to get her to tell me an average but she wouldn't. I explained that I was trying to schedule my next IVF cycle and asked if I could bring on my period w/bcp's or something and she said to at least wait another month. They're nice but they don't understand the urgency of a fertility patient.
Anyone else? I'm trying to decide whether or not to call my RE to see if they can start me on somthing to get my cycle going.
I am currently breastfeeding my almost 7 month old son (he has also started solids). I exclusively breastfed for his first 6 months. I have had my period back with a regular 28 day cycle since he was 8 weeks old! My docs were very surprised when I told them that. Everyone is different. I bet you will get yours back within the next month.
My dh and I met with our RE this week to discuss a FET this summer. I know that I will need to stop breastfeeding prior to the cycle. I am planning on a June FET so I will stop breastfeeding in May.
It can't hurt to give your RE a call just to get his input.
I am another sad sorry of AF coming back WAY too soon! I breastfed my twins until 15 months and my period came back at 4 months!!! I was looking forward to a nice long vacation from it and POW! I guess it happens more than people think but I could have done w/o mine.
Sorry I am no help but good luck on your next cycle and congrats on the new baby!
