As you already know, my meds were Lupron and Follistim so I don't know if your meds will give you the same side effects as mine. Remember though, those shots aren't as bad as they look.

Hey Marie!
I used Gonal-F and Menopur. Both were a piece of cake - and I'm NOT a fan of shots. What I can tell you is that Menopur may sting when you inject the medicine - it only lasts about 15-20 seconds, though, and if you lightly rub the spot where you injected it, it will go away. Both are really simple and you'll do great.
Marie43...So, is DH going to give you the shot like we talked about, or are you going to try this one on your own ? Good luck! Remember, just put it in quick (like a dart) and you won't feel a thing (except the meds going in). But even that isn't bad. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for sharing your information and experience with me. It helped a lot. I made it through the mixing of 4 and 2 Bravelle and Menopur vials and my first shot. I was a little nervous. I do not like needles and found out my DH dislikes them also. We had planned on him giving me the shot but I ended up doing it myself. Not so bad. It did burn, especially towards the end. My next appointment is Mon. so I will be administering the same dose until then. This is my first time doing IVF cycle and am just learning about it. Now that some of the uncertainty and fear has gone, I am getting more excited of the possibility of conceiving. I pray all will go well with you all
So, did you get it on the first try or did it take a couple of times to get the nerve to stick yourself? I can't remember, do you get to put the shots into your thigh or belly?

I don't think i'll ever get used to the shot your right it does burn and i do hate needles. I had to learn to give them to myself because i work 24 hour shiftsat and my dh is not there. oh im also a firefighter/paramedic so i knew how to give a shot but it is totally different doing it to myself. I still get sick feeling every time i get my blood taken. so i say dont ever feel bad for hating the shot. I have to say this does make you realize how strong you really are. this web site has also helped me become proud of myself because i felt alone and scarred this has made me realize that most people in this situation feel the same. no one in our family knows what we are going through they one no that we do fertility. They all say oh it will happen don't worry. not so easy
momwant2b: Hi never posted before, but I've been reading all kinds of threads just wanted to let you know, I go to FIRM in Jax. Winslow is my doctor, but I've seen all three. Do you go there too?
Marie43: Menopur and Bravelle are easy to me compared to the progesterone. My mom gave me the M&B shots in the tummy, I was too chicken too. I gave myself the Lupron in the thigh, which was easy. I did have some pain and burning with the M&B....but just remember to relax your tummy muscles (if that's where you are getting them) and take a deep breath and blow it out as the shot goes in. The progesterone is a beast in itself. I became allergic to the Cotton Seed oil, but this time around (I'm doing an FET), I have a newer, nicer progesterone in Ethyle Oleate (sp). Its so much thinner than the cotton seed oil. Good luck to you!
