How do they calculate due date with IVF?

Post by JennLB25 »

My 5dt was on February 2nd and my RE just told me today that my due date would be October 28th. I started a ticker and when I plugged in that due date, it said I was 4 weeks pg and if you go by my day of transfer I'm 2wks and 2 days. I don't understand.

Does anyone know how they work it?

your day of of retrieval is like your ovulation day since the sperm and egg meet. So 3 DPO is 3 days past retrieval.

JennLB the way a due date is normally calculated is to go by the first day of your last menstrual period. The reason is that most everyone can remember the first day of last AF but most don't remember when they conceived. So technically the pregnancy pregnancy dating starts 2 WEEKS before someone is actually pregnant. This is a nice way to standardize the counting for all comers.

IVF is different because we know the exact day and time the little one was conceived. In a way you are both correct. Developmentally you were 2 weeks along but according the way we calculate due date you were 4 weeks. Hope this helps

Hi JennKB25 - I had my first IVF cycle in 2007 and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl the end of that year. My OB uses the first day of your last menstrual cycle regardless if IVF was used or not. Congratulations and have a great pregnancy!

So the way we did it was take two weeks off of the retrieval date and use that as your last menstrual period. My clinic does that and if my doctor's office asked I give that date so thinks will be accurate.

So my retrieval was on the 25th. so I use the November 11th as my LMP date. 11 + 14 == 25. The whole two weeks thing is silly if you ask me, but that is how they have always calculated...from the first day of you last period as most people have no clue when they actually conceived. Now for women who ovulate on day 21 of their cycle instead of day 14, it puts them a week off.

Anyway, we know our conception date, so by subtracting two weeks and using that as LMP, you will get an accurate due date! Now that people really give birth on their due date (I guess some do)!!!

Based on the 1st day of LMP, my due date was Friday, 12/14/07. I went into labor early Sunday morning. And delivered naturally on the morning of Sunday, 12/16/07.
