Hi, I wish i had joined a community long before now. Although many of you have helped me through some trying days with your postings. I do not know all the "slang" but here is my IVF introduction
I am 38, and had been unsuccessful at pregnancy for years. Started Lupron in Oct, developed cyst then on birth control to get rid of cyst. Started stimulation at end of Nov (did I mention that the shots in stomach were not fun), did retrieval on Dec 3. Got 11 eggs and 9 were fertilized. Implantation on Dec 6 of 3 embroyos (grade 4 whatever that means), I have a few to freeze that are grade 3. I am currently in the 2 week wait and doing nightly progesterone injections in thigh.
Hint on thigh injection : to make sure inject the right spot I had the nurse draw bulleye circles to ensure correct spot on both sides. to numb the area before hand we used over the counter burn cream (lanacane) for numbing leave on for 30 minutes then an ice cube for 2 minutes, I honestly haven't had pain other than the injection site soreness the next day after but none while going in. Please consult your local pharmacist for numbing possibilities it makes a world of difference (shots scare me), I am sure this is similiar to ambesol etc. Additionally i lay on my side in a fetal position facing up in which ever way is being injected.
My "d-date" for finding out is December 17th. Every day I fear I have lost them but try to keep positive thoughts. I have experience cramping, which from posting I understand may be normal and I am hungry (but that could be nerves). No breast sensitivity or spotting etc.
Thank you for listening and if anyone wants a two week waiting partner or just to share, please reply.
This is an emotionally and physically challenging process but i feel stronger knowing we all are doing it together.
hi how are you doing now ??!!! just reading your blog.. i am on our first attempt having EC on monday, 2/3 and hoping like hell things happen because we cant afford to try again !
hi Kerrib-
I'm assuming by 2/3 you mean March 2? That's awesome! Good luck and don't be nervous... I'm such a wimp when it comes to all things medical. The shots weren't a big deal as long as hubby gave them to me. Although after 2-3 weeks of poking and prodding my tummy and arms were sore and bruised. But the egg retrieval wasn't bad at all. I was under general anesthesia for all of 12 minutes because I remember the anesthesiologist saying he injected the meds into my IV at 10:06 and by 10:20 I was already waking up in recovery. Yes, you will be crampy and bleedy for a day or two but its so exciting when the doctor comes to see you in recovery to tell you how many eggs they retrieved! Then I got a call the next day telling me how many fertilized! I wish you the best.
