I am exhausted, only been here 2 days feels like a month!!! Joking aside, you will be able to manage whatever is thrown at you, all ready got myself into a routine today just feel tired because I am used to having schoolage children!!

Stim started 2/21/09 & New to IVF

Post by melanie_100 »

Hello to all. I am brand spanking new to IVF and very excited  and scared  at the same time!
I don't know all the abbreviations so please hang in with me. We've been trying to get pregnant for 3.5 years with baby #2. First time it took us 14 months (and I thought that was long at the time-haha to me :P ). Now my little man is 6 years old and in kindergarten! I am 36 yo, and have one failed IUI. Husband has good sperm count, but only 1% motility. We decided to stop trying on our own and give IVF w/ ICSI a try since we've prolonged things long enough. All my blood work is good, my HSG showed open tubes, but one of my ovaries is really high. I had a c/s with my son, and think scar tissue has moved things around.
Anyway, I started Lupron .1 ml on 2/12/09, got my period on 2/21, and RE started me on Gonal F 300iu, Menopure 75 iu, and decreased lupron to .05 ml that same day, so stim started on CD 1.
Went in today-CD 5 for u/s and stat estradiol (yea :? , more pokes )
Had 9 follicles between 7.5-9 mm (average from what I understand) and my Uterus was 10.5 mm thick (very good- you want at least 7mm).
RE also increased my gonal F to 375 iu from 300 iu before, to make more eggs. I told him I feel like a hen in a factory, and that I wanted to produce Egglands Best eggs- the best around!!!
We are planning on doing a day 5 blastocyst transfer. We are having a really hard time deciding whether to do 1 or 2 blastocysts. Any thoughts specifically on this would be greatly appreciated.
I am also getting acupuncture to improve my odds- can't hurt and its relaxing.
I am so glad to have cycle buddies here; this is hard enough and its great to have someone out there going through the same thing.
Baby dust to me and to all of you!!!

Hello Ladies,
I am from Wisconsin but will have my IVF in early April at Gennet in Prague. This will be my first IVF. My DH has low count and motility and I have PCOS. I have an antagon protocol. I am on birth control now and will stop taking them March 20 and then start my injections of Follistim on day 2 of my cycle after that. I have a baseline ultrasound on March 17 before I start my stims.
I look forward to going through all fo this with ya'l.

Afternoon ladies, hope you are all having a good day.

Just wanted to say welcome to Melanie and Bianca - you have definitely come to the right place, the ladies on this thread have been lovely to me since I joined and like you both I'm an IVF first timer.

Bianca - you will have a long journey from Wisconsin to Prague! Do you just go over for the transfer or do you have to visit more than once?

Melanie - you asked about the choice of transferring one or two blasts. My clinic in the UK is pretty keen to only do the transfer (which will be a day 3 transfer) with one embryo (because of the increased risks to both mum and babies of carrying twins), even though that might reduce our chances of getting pregnant, so because of my age (I'm 34 and generally in good health) we're going to listen to them and only do one this time. Having said that, I know a few people who have had twins and they haven't had any problems, so perhaps we have made the wrong decision. If this first IVF cycle doesn't work, and we are lucky enough to have embryos to freeze, then I think we would do two for any future FET's. Or if we have to do another fresh cycle then again I think we would transfer two. In the UK they don't let you do any more than two anyway. Whereabouts are you from?

Carolyn - how funny that you live not too far away from me. Specifically, I'm just outside Luton so I'm only just in Hertfordshire (by about a mile) - that must put me pretty close to you!

Lee - love your part of the country!

Kim - hope AF is being kinder to you today. I guess you have started the injections now? Thinking of you.

Isn't it funny how many of us are having acupuncture? I have read amazing things about how it improves the odds with IVF, plus on top of that the woman I see has done wonders to sort out my digestion and generally calm me down. I was a bit of a sceptic before I went but am now a total convert. One thing which blew me away was on one of my cycles of IUI (while taking Clomid), I went for the ultrasound at the hospital on day 12 of my cycle and they could only find a small follicle (9x7 I think) on one side - they warned me that it may well not develop in time so the IUI might not happen. I had acupuncture that afternoon, all depressed about my scan, and Kate (my acupuncturist) said she would work on my ovaries. I went in for another scan on day 14 and by then the follicle measured about 25x25, and there were also two large follicles on the other ovary. Totally amazing, the lady who scanned me said she had never seen follicle growth like it over a 48 hour period - she thought that the person who did the first scan may have screwed up but I think it was all down to the acupuncture. So I'm absolutely convinced that acupuncture is going to help us all with our IVF!

Anyway, enough from me. Hope everyone is well.

Welcome Bianca and melanie! I have added you to our thread calendar/list. Looks like you may be first to go Melanie! How exciting!

Our list is really growing, I hope I can continue to keep up with everyone.

Sprout- I know you are busy hun, and I am on here almost everyday, so I will keep it up to date as much as I can, and now because of my delays, I think I am last to cycle, so I will be around for a while! Feel free to update it anytime you want.

Carolyn- So nice not to have to do injections I bet. You are getting close, not too much longer to go.

hjw- You will have to let me know how the acupuncture goes. I know a lot of people on this thread are doing it, I have never tried it myself, but maybe something to think about. I did not do it the first time and I had success.

Ok, gotta run, but I will catch up with everyone else later. Talk to you all soon!

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. I've never done a forum or chat before, so this is neat to have "friends" out there sending you such warm wishes.
My heart and prayers go out to everyone as well. It's amazing how much wanting a little baby can drive us poor girls nuts. They are so worth it though.
I called this A.M and was told that my stim day 5 estradiol level was 418. Hope that's good. I'm not terribly sure what all those numbers mean. I read that over 300 is good, so I was excited.
HJW- asked where I was from, I am in Richmond, VA USA. Also, thanks for your advise regarding the # of blastocysts to transfer. Please let us know how yours goes, once you find out!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Ct_Michelle- Thanks for adding me to your list. I wish there was someone who was going first before me, but it helps me to know you guys are rooting for me, as I am also for you.
Well have a great day ladies! :D

This is an exciting time for everyone. I just can't wait to get started!!
Yes, it is a long ways from wisconsin to prague. Our flight is actually to Munich and we will be in Munich one day and then fly to Prague the next day. I think it is a 12 hour flight to Munich. One of the reasons I picked the clinic I did is they didn't require me to come there for my preliminary appointment and I could do it by the phone and do the initial testing and ultrasounds here and I didn't have to be there for 3 weeks like some places overseas required. It makes me nervous though as if something happens, I under or overstimulate or have a cyst right before I am supposed to start stimulating I will have to change our plane tickets which will be a pain and probably have lots of fees to change them. I just hope it all goes smoothly.

biancajb- Boy and I thought I had a lot on my mind!! I was fussing about the 30 min car ride it takes me to get to my RE :!:
Your flight all the way to Prague puts me in my place (haha  )
Just found out Mom is going to come here and help me with the whole ER and ET process, the bed rest, etc. That really helps since I have a 6 year old in school, so it's a lot less stress to know she'll be here to help me. Besides, as much as I love my husband, no one takes better care of me when I'm "indisposed" than my dear old Mom. She makes the best soups too!!
So needless to say today is a good day and I'm happy
Haven't really gotten bitchy yet with the meds (Stim day 6 today), so that's good for everyone around me. I am very tired though, don't know if its just me or the meds and the fact that my body is an egg factory :o
Please let me know how you girls are feeling emotionally and physically.
Please take great care of yourselves.
Melanie
