Ugh, I had my retrieval last Sunday. The nurse had told me to drink lots of fluids, including Gatorade. Well I drank a good bit of water and one big bottle of Gatorade. Yesterday (Thursday), I was very bloated and had difficulty catching my breath - I gained back two lbs from the day before. Thank God I'm less bloated today - lost the two lbs.
Is it too late for me to drink more Gatorade? I still have two big bottles (thermos size) leftover. Will that help at all? I guess I was confused because Gatorade has a lot of salt in it and I thought that would make me retain water.
I did not have OHSS but i was quite bloated and i know the general recommendation is gatorade and it helped me... I would say no its not too late as people drink it till symptoms subside. If in doubt put a quick call in to the nurse, i'm sure they would clarify this for you
Also i seem to remeber a while ago someone asked about the salt in gatorade and people that replied said the salt helps to draw out the fluid from the ovaries which is the main cause of the bloating, so the salt helps!!
Goodluck to you and hope the bloating goes soon...
I'm in my 6th of 2 weeks wait. My doctor told me to drink Gatorade after my retrieval, of course i ask why, and he said because after the retrieval the uterus sweats and i have to replace liquids asap for healthy womb, so I drunk Gatorade for two days and later a switch it for plain water. now i understand why we shouldn't drink coffee...
I know I was told to drink one "32 oz." powerade zero per day.
