Low progesterone level

Post by REGINA28 »

Hi Everyone,
I haven't been here for ages, but I have a question. In 2006 we had a baby boy(IVF). Last week we found out that we are pregnant again this time naturally. My HCG is good(576), but progesterone is only 7.1. I talked to the nurse and she doesn't seem hopeful. Has anyone ever had progesterone level this low and still had a healthy pregnancy?

Hi Regina

Congrats on your little boy and your BFP.

This has to be a quick post as I am at work.

You'll see that I never got a BFP but we did get one with my dear sister. Her progesterone was dangerously low in the week after the BFP although her HCG was around the 300 level. Because it was ivf then she was having daily/every other day blood tests for HCG and for progesterone also.

She was given gestone (liquid progesterone) immediately in order to raise her progesterone levels. The evidence is sketchy but if in doubt then my clinic prescribe in order to try to avoid m/c along with the suppositrise I am sure that it helped support her and the baby through the early weeks and as soon as she was on the injections then her levels jumped right up. If you ask me then it made all the difference and you can see where we are now from my ticker!

If I was you then I would certainly ask to see whether you can get either suppositries and /or liquid injections to boast your progesterone levels. I understand that it does no harm but can help.

Good Luck.

HI Carolyn,
Thank you so much for responding to my post. Do you know what was your sisiter's progesterone number? My is only 7.1. My doctor put me on Crinone 8%(progesterone), but everything I am reading says progesterone that low is not good, I think 10 is the min. for a pregnancy to survive.
I have another blood test today.
Thank you very much and good luck to you.

Mine was only 11 at my first beta so my doctor doubled my PIO shot dose. It stayed high after that. I'd put more stock in what your progesterone level is at today after adding the Crinone. Good luck!

Hi Regina

Not at all. Happy to help others where possible.

I looked at my old posts and know that my sisters progesterone level halfed over a day or two but does not look like it dropped below around 50. But her hcg was lower than you when it happened. Not sure if there is also an interplay between the two factors.

Read the post above as that should offer encouragement too.

The injections can work fast.

Crossing my fingers and toes for your blood test later.
Lots and lots of luck

Is the Crinone your only supp? My RE doesn't like using Crinone only. Maybe you should ask them if you can use PIO or Endometrin? How's your HCG today?

Hi,
My HCG today was around 2,000, which is good, but progesterone is still very low. I was told to only use Crinone, so I hope it will help.
Thank you very much for everyones' response.
