two days until transfer...

Post by 41 and counting »

Hi Everyone,
I am 41 years old and undergoing my 3rd cycle. I went through 2 cycles two years ago and the second resulted in a pregnancy. I have a 16 mos old son. In the last cycle, they retrieved 20 eggs and 11 fertilized. In this cycle, they retrieved 18 eggs, and 2 fertilized.
My DH has a fertility issue - he underwent a vasectomy several years ago which we tried to reverse a few years back unsuccessfully (which is why we started IVF). So, we are using testicular sperm which also reduces the fertilization rate. <sigh>
I am feeling really down right now -I keep reading article after article about being over 40 and the impact on my egg quality. That said, my doc says I am lucky - that most women my age do not produce 18 mature eggs and it can take several cycles to get 2 embros.
Any one out there with a similar experience?
Crossing my fingers... :(

Hi, that's not my experience. BUT I just wanted to pass on an advice my naturopath doctor gave me prior to my 3rd transfer that resulted in a bfp: keep yourself REALLY hydrated before, the day of, and day after transfer. Increase your protein intake, and put a hot water bottle at the level where your uterus is the day before of transfer and maybe even that morning before transfer (that will increase the blood flow to that area). No heat after your babies are in. You want your body to be ready for those precious embies...remember all you need is ONE!!!

Baby dust and PMA!!!!

I got 2 wonderful girls out of it and at age 26 my eggs are of a 40 sumthing yr old so it can happen just look at the bright side 2 is better then none.. And at the age of 20-26 the most eggs i ever produced was 10

My husband had a failed reversal that was a failure. It was done by a local urologist that should never have done it. He should have referred us to a urologist specializing in male infertility and that does microsurgery. We later went to a specialist in Dallas who redid the reversal and every thing works great. Let me know if you want me to expound further.

His sperm are now great!! The only reason we are doing ivf is because i am pushing 43.

Transfer was today

Post by 41 and counting »

Hi!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and words of encouragement.
We ended up transferring only 1 embryo today - the other embryo arrested its development beyond a 2 cell. The embryo that was transferred is only a 5 cell but has very little fragmentation (it looks good). I have been trying to find some info out there on the odds that this could lead to pregnancy but am not coming across much
I had acupuncture before and after the transfer - very relaxing. Not sure if it will help to increase the blood flow to my uterus but am willing to give it a try
Now I wait until the pregnancy test - feels like an eternity and I am not even 24 hours out! Ha. I better find something to keep me busy

I'll be thinking about you.

Update..

Post by 41 and counting »

Went in for my first HCG this past Tuesday and my BETA was 44.3. Lower than 50 but we are hopeful that perhaps the embryo implanted late. Since then, I have noticed I am more tired, and still fairly nauseous (particulary this evening - I thought this was only supposed to happen in the morning). So, I am hopeful that my HCG level is rising..
Tomorrow is BETA #2
Wish me luck!

Oh yeah, the whole "morning" sickness is a myth...it can happen ANYTIME...literally, yack. I used to get mine a lot in the evenings, BUT it was for a good reason so I tried not to complaint too much.

Keep us posted.

re: Transfer

Hi Esperanza,
My HCG level went back up to 177.9 so now we are hopeful and waiting for the next level (which is this Monday). It could go either way (according to Doc) - it may have implanted late or it could be a blighted ovum.
In any event, I am just hoping that if it implanted late, that it is fine. No genetic issues...
Thanks for your support

Got my BETA test back today - only 605. Doc wanted to see 700.
Next BETA is this Friday. DH is hopeful but I am not (even though I feel pregnant). I am getting tired of not knowing - I wish my level were higher so I could get an ultrasound and know for sure

hmmm...sorry to hear that  although 605 it's not too far from 700 and the numbers are still going up, something is definitely happening inside. You do feel pregnant because YOU ARE!!! I'll keep you and dh in my thoughts. Keep me posted.

News

Post by 41 and counting »

Had another level this morning and it was 1085. Doc would have liked to see it double by now so they want to rule out an ectopic. So, I am having an ultrasound Monday morning. They do not expect to see a hearbeat (because it's too early).

They told me to watch out for pain and call if I have any this weekend. Meanwhile, DH and I are going away with a group of friends this weekend.

Oiy!!!!!!!

On one hand, I am glad we are doing the ultrasound - now I will hopefully have a better idea of what is going on. On the other hand, I am completely stressed out.
