New to the boards and not sure about all the abbreviations. Just wondering about beta tests. I read that the first test should be about 50. My first test was 3/6/09 - 137. I thought it was high until I read some of the other posts. I was thinking that it could mean twins but now I'm pretty sure it's just normal. My second was 3/10/09 - 348. I go back on the 19th for another blood test and ultrasound. Just wondering if IVF readings are higher than normal pregnancies? Also - to all the twin parents or the mommies expecting twins - what was your first few beta levels?
Thanks for the info. And if you can tell me the meaning of some of these abbreviations that I keep seeing (on the posts) I would appreciate it.
If you go to the section of the boards titled "General Forum," you will find a post there about abbreviations. You will catch onto them in no time.
As far as beta numbers, they vary for everyone. Yours sounds normal. Mine was a 44 and I had one, but it also depends on how many days past your ER (egg retreival). I was 15 dpo (days past ovulation, or retrieval). I was also a late implanter, I know this since my baby measured small the whole way and my number was pretty low for a first beta test.
I am posting a link to a site I found very helpful during beta days. It is an hcg calculator, you type in your first beta, how manys days past ovulation you were, and then second numbers and days between test and it will show you a graph of where you fall on the normal range for a singleton.

1st IVF- 12/07- BFP! Ella Michele was born 8/26/8
2nd IVF- 04/09 - BFN
1st FET- 09/09 - Chemical
3rd IVF - 04/11 - Embies didn't make it to ET
4th IVF - Fall 2011??
so then if I counted right, without looking at a calendar, you were 13 dpo on first beta and there were 4 days between first and second beta. I went ot that site and punched in your numbers and it looks like you are on the high range of a singleton, but I guess it could also be the low end of twins...so you will have to see at u/s. You should check out that site, very helpful to see the graph and doubling times.

I was pregnant in November and my # was 145 at 14 DPT (days past transfer) and it continued to double the whole time. They always said my numbers were good but in the end the heartbeat stopped. I just found out I am pregnant again (4th IVF cycle) and my # was 835 at the same timeframe and 3 days later it was 3079!! I went again today for my final beta so we'll see what happens. I am thinking that it could be twins but I will cross that bridge when I come to it... Good luck and keep us posted on your US...
aeb: I had my first beta at 13dpo also. My number was 344 then 2 days later it was 1007. I just found out Monday that we're having twins & my RE said she may have seen a third. I think beta numbers vary a lot though. I've seen twin pregnancies with low numbers & singletons with high numbers. Good luck!
