So - progesterone shots. No fun! My rear is black and blue and sore all over.
I have been icing the area before the shot (although one nurse recommended it and another told me it wasn't a good idea). I have to say - it helps. After the shot, I use a heating pad to help with the pain and open up the blood vessels. Over time, I have developed lumps in my butt checks. I assumed that because the progesterone is in oil and time released, that it was just a build up. But that is an assumption. Anyone else having this reaction? I haven't spoken to the doctor yet - so I thought someone might have or could shed some light.
Hi aeb --congratulations! if your butt cheeks are developing lump I'm assuming it's because you have to be in extended progesterone shots (and we all know what that means!!!).
Yes, my dear, I had those awful lumps as well. Towards the end I almost nearly cried every time I had to have the shots (and I'm a person with high pain tolerance). I eventually developed an allergy to the shots so my RE switched me to prometrium (progesterone in pills) and my butt was SO happy

AEB Congratulations!!!on your BFP!!!! as for the progesterone in oil shots- warming the oil in your hand can make it more fluid- even more helpful- my REs prescribed lidocaine cream that helped with injection site numbing and after - but yes, like esperanza, i got pretty lumpy at the end -
best of luck- so sorry about the pain and bruising right now - i just tried to remember that it meant i was pregnant and the shots wouldn't be forever
Congrats!!! I also did the shots until 10 weeks and my nurse told us to massage the area for ten minutes after doing the shot because it disperses the oil. The bump is just a pocket of oil sitting there. We actually got one of those hand held massagers that just vibrates and my husband massaged the area for 10 minutes each night after the shot. I only got maybe 4 of those and after massaging for two nights they would go away. I found the best way to do it so it didnt hurt was to pull my skin apart as tight as possible while the needle was inserted and I really didnt feel it.
