Insurance Coverage which States?

Hi all does anyone know a list of states or jobs in certain states that cover IVF?

Illinois has a state mandate to cover IVF but you have to be covered under a HMO. If you have a PPO then that is considered a self pay insurance and your company does not have to cover IVF. I work for SAIC, which is a government contracting company that has offices all around the world.

Connecticut covers it, in most circumstances, some jobs found a loop hole and don't have to offer it for some reason...

As the rest of the girls said, many states have to have it as an option, but many companies do not have to offer it because they are self insured or exempt or something like that. I am a nurse who works at a private healthcare facility in CT. -I paid for EVERYTHING out of pocket!!!! Jennifer

I live in MN and NOTHING IS COVERED! I have one $12K baby!

I'm working on my second. If my FET works, he/she/they will be a $4K baby! I am a high school teacher and my insurance is horsecrap! As far as I know, there is no state mandate saying that IVF should be covered.

Maryland- dont know if its a state thing, but through the U of Maryland/ state employee stuff, our IVF was covered - i think we paid about $400-$600 in copays and it covered 3 trys per live birth up to 3 times- for us, it worked on the 1st go
best of luck- there are some great private insurance cos that do the trick as well

Its a state mandate in MD and why my DH and I were separated for almost a year. He got a job in CA and moved just as we were getting started on IVF. We learned that my MD job covered 3 cycles of IVF per live birth (up to 100K of benefit).

CA mandates that insurance companies OFFER employers the ability to choose plans that provide IVF coverage, but employers are not required to choose those types of plans. DH's new CA employer did not provide plan choices that included IVF or IUI coverage.

As someone else said MA also has a state mandate requiring IVF coverage. My friend's employer allowed 6 rounds of IVF lifetime.

I'm in Indiana and as far as I know there is no mandate for IVF to be covered. However, I work for the Red Cross and my insurance covers IVF up to 10K lifetime maximum. I didn't think that would get me very far but after insurance negotiates the cost, it's a lot cheaper. I've done 2 fresh and 2 frozen tries so far. Good luck!
