post embro transfer constipation + preganancy?

Post by muffy »

Hi,

trying for 10years - 6 failed iuis / 1 failed ivf - on last stage of 2nd ivf - 2ww!

Had my embryo transfer yesterday - when they did it they discovered a polyp on the entrance of my cervix - tthey have never seen this before! They advised this should not cause a problem. On top of this one of my embryos stuck to tube and had to be reloaded. Subsequently i have been constipated since then and have strained each time I have done a poo! Is this going to affect my chances of implantion - has anyone else experienced this?
Am not too hopefull at day 2 after 2 ebryo transfer at thiks stage - should I be more positive?

Constipation is a very common problem post transfer, due to the progesterone. I was given a stool softener ( brand name: colace, generic: docusate sodium) to prevent straining. Colace is also safe to use during pregnancy. It works very well and is not a laxative.

An alternative is to use Metamucil or similar psyllium fiber powder. This is also safe for use during pregnancy, according to my RE.

If you end up pregnant, the constipation only gets worse; so better to deal with it now.

Good luck!

Almost hate to say anything. but will start with STAY POSITIVE!!!! Now...
when I did my first IVF I got pregnant. Wow, happened the first time, would easily happen again. WRONG!!!
Went in for the second IVF and I too had a polyp blocking the entrance to my cervix. They actually had a really hard time getting the embryos in. Eventually they did. I had the worst cramps of my entire life within 4 hours.
Unfortunately, I ended up with a BFN
Now, I am not sure if it was the polyp or what, but it just wasn't in my cards. I am not telling you this to scare you, just sharing my story. I so hope you end up with a BFP!!!

As far as constipation, I had it with all three of my IVF's. I too took the collace. Good luck

Pap smear for polyp?

Post by Tara2009 »

I too had a polyp in my cervix discoverd by the RE during my egg retrieval. He was surprised that he didn't see that during any of the ultra sounds. He did a pap smear to make sure it is not cancer. Thank God the pap smear result was negative.

Didn't they do a pap smear for you?

Tara.

They did not do a pap smear on mine at the time that the polyp was discovered. I think partially because they didn't discover the polyp until the transfer, not even at retrieval.
I eventually did have the polyp removed, after I got my BFN.

Muffy- Have you POAS yet? I believe that you are in week 2 of the dreaded 2ww. Please keep us posted on your results.

I'd stay positive if the polyp didn't interfere with your ET. I had polyps removed prior to my first IVF but they were all over my uterine lining. RE wanted to remove them before because they want a nice clear lining for the embies to adhere to. Since they're not going to adhere to your cervix I think you should be fine.

And I'm with all the other ladies here, was constipated due to progesterone. No worries there either.

Good luck!
