My weekend

Post by Helen Reid »

Hi all

I had a great weekend away it was weird being sober and watching everyone else getting rather drunk. I had one glass of wine and it lasted me 3 and half hours for every sip i had a glass of water. Did not get much retail therapy but the girls did insist on helping me search for a bra and i found one yeh! We tried this designer shop and they gave us directions for another shop. She was brill she tried all sizes and shapes and found one that is really comfy and i got a few leaflets with websites to try if i need more (its not a maternity bra but at least i don't have wires digging into me).

My mother in law was not too bad but she was hard work and not just for me. I upset her on the train as we were talking about a babysitting and she said about my father in law but my sis said it would be hard and she just looked at me. It has to do with smoking you see my f-i-l is a heavy smoker and i do not want anyone smoking near my baby at least for the first few months and i have been told you have to wait at least 10 mins after a cig before going near a baby. I have always felt strongly about smoking my mum and dad both smoked and i told them years ago that the same rule would apply to them so i am not being funny. my mum is trying to give up not just for me but for her as well (she did give up a few years ago but i had my mc and my sis moved out so she just could not cope and she did put on alot of weight as well but i would rather see her thin and smoking than fat and unhappy). Anyway she said to my mum about it and my mum just said that is the way young ones think these days and its the way i am. But she said to the rest of the girls that that practicaly rules him looking after the baby i know it must be hard but i am putting my foot down on this.
I hope i have not offended anyone.
I have rambled on again far too long.

Helen

I was wondering how the weekend was - first the good news! The bra - how wonderful - it must be nice at last to find a comfy one - make the most of it!
Your MIL - does she have a sack of potatoes or what? Suppose you idn't get a chance to tell her it applies to your family too!

I used to smoke - but gave up around 5 yrs ago now - I totally agree with you - I have a friend opposite who smokes like a chimney and I hate the smell of smoke and keep trying to dash out and drink my tea asap so as not to breathe too much in - can't imagine the twins like it! As for when they are babies it is a smoke free zone - apart from our fire and I agree wiht you. Luckily our family don't smoke - phew - and we do not allow smoking in our house - they can all puff in the garden (not to close to the house as it wafts in) this is your baby and therefore your rules.
Take care
Love

Hi, glad to hear there were some highlights....over three hours with one glass of wine....well done!

What is it with MILs? Mine uses the fact I don't speak her dialect of Norwegian (imagine a really broad Yorkshire accent being used at speed with a American) to say things I don't understand.

I TOTALLY agree with you on the smoking. I read on bbc.com heath only two weeks ago that children of parents who smoke OUTSIDE still have twice as much nicotine in their blood as children whose parents don't smoke at all. I smoked for nearly 20 years and only gave up 5 years ago so am passionate about the subject now

They are your twins and as their mum, you call the shots.
love
Debra.

Hi Helen,

Glad you found a bra! :D

Smoking - you go girl. When Sam was in neo-natal, the baby's next to him parents absolutely stank of smoke and I requested that Sam was moved to the opposite end of the room...take no chances, that's what I say.

As for your M-I-L, sounds like you're gonna need the patience of a saint :o
