IVF #7????

Post by kbat »

I've been thinking about doing another cycle. It's been about 1 year and even though I didn't want to give up, I had reached limit of 6 on old insurance. I have been thinking about it on and off and new insurance will cover it.

Has anyone done else done a lot? What kind of reception do you get from clinics about doing so many..... If we don't have bio kids, we won't have any. I have been trying naturally for a year (doing TCm), but that has gotten me no where. At most I only have a couple more years left.

Some days I don't feel the urge, but plenty of other days I do.....

hello there!

I will have EC tomorrow for IVF ICSI number 6...

it has also been a year since my last IVF (+ but MC)
at least I know that IVF works for us, and it give me strengh to carry on...

to be honest , I was happy to stop IVF and try to adopt, but DH is too old so adoption is out of question now.

If I dont do IVF, I will never have children... so I dont have much choice!

Up to now, we have also been lucky as our treatments were covered by insurance. Now we have a limit of 4000 dollars per cycle, which covers half of the cost. So I have the added pressure of money now!

I guess if your insurance covers your treatment, I would say go for it!
I know it is not easy , but not having the financial pressure is a great ++++

wishing you the best with whatever you decide!
Me 27, DH 55
04/ 05 ICSI -tive 02/06 ICSI. No fertilisation
09/ 06 ICSI. BFP!!! M/C at 12 weeks.04/07 ? ICSI -tive

Good luck to you. I hope it works out for you. I hope it works out for you.

We had insurance out of Mass which covered IVF at 100%--up to 6. We did 6. #5 worked for us--kind of it ended in an etopic, so I did a #6. It was kind of rushed since we were trying to get it done before my dh switched jobs and didn't know if new insurnace would cover it. Since we did do the 6, I never really looked into it after that.

However, I was never really satisfied w/ the clinics I went to in RI--for various reason--not really b/c it didn't work though. I went to 2 different ones. I was at one and the doctor left. I would have stayed w/ the first one, but the doctor was in the process of getting approved through my insurance I didn't want to wait. so I stuck w/ the doctor, even though we weren't particulary fond of her. After 3 w/ her, and being dissatisfied w/ generally how things were going, I went back to clinic #1 w/ new doctor. I really liked the new doctor, but wasn't happy w/ other things at this clinic. But in the end I had some limited success, so I knew it could possibily work. Out of 6 IVF cycles, I had 4 e/t. Once of the things I found mystifying w/ dr. #2 was that she didn't really agree w/ Day 2 transfer since she felt in gave a person "false" hope since you don't have the opportunity to see exactly how they are dividing, etc by day 3. IVF #4 I didn't have e/t after waiting to do it on day 3. IVF #5, I did wait to have day 3 transfer and interestingly enough, it seemed to be the most successful. But then #6, I only had one embryo, and she decided to go to transfer on #2.

If I go in-network, I will get covered 100%--less if I go out of network. I really hadn't looked into the financial aspect w/ new insurance b/c I pretty much figured they would cover it, and I don't want the added pressure of coming up w/ the $$$ to try to do it on our own--that wasn't much of an option especially in this economy. I realize w/ my advancing age, I really don't have much time left should I try this again. I have taken a year off. My dh is pretty much just set on having biological kids--so for us it's all or nothing. He's not interested in adoption and we both agreed not to do donor eggs for personal reasons. Just don't see too many out there who have done a lot (probably b/c of the $$$), so wondering how the reception was for those who continue to do it.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hope it works out for you.

Hi kbat

Just had to reply. At the end of the day what anyone else thinks about lots of tries is up to them what matters is whether you can take the rollercoaster all over again. Your notes give the sense that you feel strong enough emotionally to go fo it. So if you can then go for it. No regrets is what I say. It is almost impossible to move forward whilst the door is still ajar or at least that is what I found.

I write because you will see my signature. Because of age, we did most cycles in very quick succession. We also had 7 operations (tubal surgery for me plus 3 TESAs for my dh) in a 3 year period. We knew that adoption was not an available option due to my dh's age and me having an auto immune disorder.

Try 7 was very very hard if I am honest. I was totally exhausted. We paid for all tmt and I was sick of spending so much money without any success but just could not stop myself.

But I had to do try 7 to know that I tried everything. I made the clinic(s) throw everything at us. The works. I made myself know that when we stopped I would know that nobody could tell me that we had not tried everything.

When we stopped then I was so very very sad but also relieved that I got my body & life back. I had some counselling which helped. The clinics also said that they could not help us anymore. We were truely at the end of our journey.

By the time my sister stepped forward, I'd say that I spent pushing 6 months coming to terms, even through try 7, with it being just me and dh. It took that long. Stepping on again, even with my amazing sister, was hard. Back at the clinics, seeing my sister on the drugs, being with her in ET etc etc However, once she had offered and the door was ajar, I knew that there would be no way that I could say no. Because I could not live with the fact that it might have worked.

If you want to talk more then PM me. Just felt that there was some similarities in the stories. If there is a chance then grab it if you can and if you feel that the door is still open for you.

All the luck in the world. Let's hope that it is 7th time lucky for you :D

Carolyn---Thanks so much for the advice. Right now I am waiting for a booklet from the insurance to find out who's in network (covered at 100%) and who's not in network (good to have anyway for other docs). If I do #7, I really want it to count and make sure that I go to a clinic that's within driving distance that seems to have some success w/ older patients. I will have to due a little research to find a good clinic. I've really hadn't been happy w/ either clinic--not necessarily b/c it didn't work--I know that there's always a chance it wouldn't. One place did a lot of the little things "wrong", but were easily correctable fast (like they would say that I didn't turn in some paperwork and when I informed them that I had, the found it, etc.) But mostly I didn't really like the doctor there and she kept switching her story--like don't worry you have 6 to do, but then after 2 or 3 she would say that I had to look at my options (ie I would screw up their #'s) and she didn't really like answering questions. 2nd clinic I really liked the RE but had some other issues w/ the nurse and the fact that the clinic was really a baby factory. In the end their stats for my age group weren't much different. I can't do anything until May anyway b/c that's when my job ends, so I have a little time to try to do some research on clinics. If I do it one more time, I just want to pick the "right" place to do it. I won't be able to go to Colorado, but I think there may be some good ones in CT and/or NYC, so we shall see.....

I am leaning toward trying once more and of course once I go for a consultation, you just don't know if the RE is willing to do another one, but I guess I have to look at all my options.

Thanks so much for the support!!! :)
