HPT VS BLOOD TEST

Post by branda »

HI ladies, I called my RE today for advice and they told me that they do not believe in urine test because of the controversy they had with patients in the past and that blood test is more accurate. My Re told me that they have had patients who did HPT with 5times positve results, which turned out negative with blood test. Also, had patients with negative HPT with positive blood test. My Re is specialized on fertility only, with 25years experience, more expensive than my first failed IVF clinic.

I'm not trying to frighten anyone, but just want to know if anyone has ever heard such thing before?

please, kindly reply!

Yes, I've heard of such things. I agree with your doctor - if you are doing any fertility treatments where they will give you a blood test, resist the temptation to use home pregnancy tests.

I have seen it wrong both ways. There are many times people get negative hpts, and then a positive blood test, mainly because their hcg numbers are too low for the hpt to detect it. Some women also get false positives...they may do an hpt too early and the hcg from the trigger shot is still in their system and that is what the hpt reads. But I have also seen women who get multiple positive hpts, then blood test says negative, and when they ask RE about their positive hpt's, they repeat the blood and suprise suprise, a positive...thinking the first blood test may have been a lab error. I have even seen someone stopped all meds, get what she though was a period, have surgery and then to find out she actually was pregnant, one fighter hung on! I honestly have seen it all here, so my plan is to depend on both, for confirmation purposes, I will hpt, and then compare with my blood test, just to be sure.

I POAS since the day i triggered and saw my HPTs go from positive to negative. 2 days later after that negative i saw a real positive (not from my trigger) until the day of beta. The only thing is that my hpts kept getting lighter. I went in for my beta that day and my level was only at 5. They had me stop all meds and go for another beta 3 days later. Unfortunately they said pregnancy was not viable at the level of 5.
