Cindy, Gonal-f can be injected in the tummy or thigh. I found the tummy easiest. I always did them myself and it became very routine fairly quickly. Mine weren't painful at all and I didn't have to numb (same goes for Lupron).

Now, last night I did my first PIO self injection in the butt! :o Since last Friday, DH has been home every night and last night was his first night back at work so I had to do it myself. They didn't hurt when he did them but I was still absolutely terrified last night! It took me about an hour after pacing around my house before I finally just jabbed it in :o. Of course it didn't hurt and I got all worked up for nothing  So far I haven't had to use any of the numbing, heating etc. techniques prior to giving myself any injections. I was actually told by RE numbing with ice could make it worse (makes the progesterone harder to spread and will cause bruising and lumps). Lupron and Gonal-f are no way as thick so you shouldn't have to worry about the lumping. But do whatever works for you!

I'm PUPO!!! The transfer went well this morning! The embryos looked great and everything went well. The worst part is dealing with the full bladder!!! I'm resting this afternoon and then on with the 2ww!

Just a quickie to say I DID IT! First injection done, only about 10 more to go before ER... I'm such a wimp, I was so petrified of injecting myself - poor DH had to watch me shaking like a leaf on the bed and holding the Gonal-F pen about a centimetre away from my tummy for over 35 minutes before I summoned up the courage! I was so determined to do it myself though because he won't always be home in time to do it. And I finally took the plunge and did it! It took me a few 'practice' stabs where the needle broke the skin but didn't actually go in, so part of my stomach now unfortunately looks like a pin cushion! It did hurt a bit but now that I know what it feels like, I will cope better tomorrow.

Josee, so pleased to hear ER went well. Get some rest now, you deserve it!

Sarah/sbr - yay, you're in the PUPO club!

dys - hurray for trigger, here's hoping for lots of quality eggs on Saturday. Enjoy your drug free day tomorrow!

Anyway, off to have dinner and put my feet up. Speak to you all later or tomorrow.

Well done with the pen! I have to admit I'm dreading that too. Although I'm getting quite good with the little needle!!

The main problem I'm having at the moment is getting into the right mindset for IVF. After so long of not expecting a positive result, I can't bring myself to take it seriously. I don't want to commit to it emotionally in case it doesn't work out but at the same time I want to give it 110%.
Part of this is because I bascically scuba dive for a living and have, for obvious reasons, have given it up (as well as alcohol and caffine!) so my lfe feels quite empty and we are a little poorer! How do you strike a balance between looking forward to the prospect and at the same time preparing for the worst?

Hazel,, Congrats on the shot!! I remember when I gave myself my first shot back with my first cycle, I psyched myself out so bad that I finally stuck the shot in my tummy only to automatically reflex and bring it back out...without injecting the medicine!!! So, I had to stick myself twice that first day! I'd say you did a fine job if you didn't do what I did!!!

 Cytnhia- I am so glad your PIO went well. I have to start them next Tuesday if I haven't ovulated, to prepare for the FET. How many ml's do you do? He has me doing 2 ml.
I heard all the horror stories and was scared to death, but your story has easied my mind. I never minded the stim meds, so I think I'll do OK with this as well. Since I'm a nurse though, I'm dreading DH's "technique" more than anything. I know how to give shots without them hurting too bad just from doing it so often, but this will be his first time. I'm not excited about being his guinea pig. He said the other day he is dreading it, and thinks it will be harder on him then me :!: I was like yeah right, it's not your butt your injecting sesame oil into
 I am so glad that we're finallly getting a lot of BFP's on this thread. I'll tell you since I joined in early March, we have really gotten this baby rollin! Go-Thread-GO
Have a great day everyone,
Melanie

Hello ladies. I just saw my Primary doc yesterday due to my on and off diarrhea which happening to me for 1 month now. I've tried everything diet and antibiotic. My doctor said that its the Metformin that's giving me this problem. She's recommending to me to stop taking it. but I can't i need it for my IVF cause I have PCOS. I have already lost 6 lbs. My doc suggested that I try taking FLORASTOR..it's a PROBIOTIC meds.... Anyone familiar with FLORASTOR?

dys24, do you have problem with metformin?

Melanie, RE has me taking 1 mL. One thing I think really helps me is taking all of my weight off the hip DH is injecting into. I usually lean on the dining room chair or something. Most of the time I don't even feel the needle and then maybe a little pressure from the oil going in, not pain though. I felt a sting once and I think I forgot to lean and I must have tensed my hip muscle?? I know some women lay down for the reason. We're always in the middle of some TV show when I remember to do it so we run over to the dining room, stick me and get back to our show  . DH is a pro at it now. He just jabs it in like a dart. Anyway, I hope yours aren't bad. I too heard the horror stories. I'm using a 25g needle to inject and a 22g to draw up the oil btw.

Hazel: I did trigger last night and my ER is scheduled for tomorrow. Not sure yet if my ET will be either Monday or Wednesday. I really scared to start the PIO injections tomorrow night! Wish me luck :)

Glad you were able to do your own injection. I started out with my DH doing all of them, but eventually ended up doing most of them myself. It gets easier.

I will post tomorrow after my ER. Have a good night!

 Cynthia:
Thanks for the info. I have a feeling DH is going to get turned on with me bending over in front of him, as* in the air and all  It doesn't seem to take much to get him excited-HaHa. Sorry for the TMI!! I just think it will happen.
I have a feeling being on 2 ml the whole time is going to make my boobs huge and very sore. I also remember how tired I was last time on the vaginal gel. But I told RE that I cramped a lot last time and got a BFN, so I wanted to do something different.
 Can some of you on PIO tell me how much you were on :?:
Thanks, Melanie

I had my FET today. Things went well, but as the day has progressed, and I've had two doses of my progesterone suppositories, I've started having severe cramping. Anyone else have this happen??? I'm pretty miserable.

Sarah- I had a lot of cramping on day of ET. I think it's normal to have this as your uterus and cervix are p'd off at you. Just take it easy and keep off your feet. It should be better tomorrow. I'm glad your transfer went well, and it's impressive you thawed two frosties and got both to survive. We are thawing all 6 of my day 1 frosties to attempt to get at least one blastocysts for my FET on 4/12.
Congrats on being PUPO
