Please help me with HCG question

Post by Tara2009 »

Ladies,

I had my first pregnancy test on April 01 and it is a BFN. The nurse said that my HCG level is 40 and they like to see numbers between 40 to 100. Is 40 a good number? Or is it too low? I have read in the other forums that some ladies have beta numbers like 400s and 900s. I am kind of worried. Is HCG level different from beta level? Please educate me.

Also my ER was on May 17th. So how many weeks is my pregnancy now?

Thanks,
Tara

Tara - I'm not an expert on the numbers...But my clinic will retest as low as 5. They tell me they like to see at least 50. My gut would tell me to insist on another beta test to see if the numbers increase.

what i've researched previously and been told by my clinic is that they like the # above 100, as a number that high is more related to a viable pregnancy, BUT that being said, anything over 5 is possibly a pregnancy (Yes, there is such a thing as being 'a little pregnant')

your clinic is your best resource, and although i've found this uncomfortable in the past- i've needed to clearly say 'i don't understand- explain this to me'...

i always had my beta test (which is the same as hcg) 17 days past ER, and my numbers were in 300s or 400s.

theres a good website called betabase.info check it out and good luck.

also a low beta number often indicates a chemical pregnancy (which i think means a placenta or gestational sac starts to grow, but there is no embryo- it's like a trick pregnancy)
