IVF + high risk of preterm labor

Post by Neffi211 »

To anyone with info.....

I have read on many sites that list risks of preterm labor. On the list is singlton pregnancy after IVF. I understand the risk after IVF due to multiples, but why if you just have one baby? I am going for ET tomorrow and just have worries becasue I have many risk factors for preterm labor...1) IVF, which I don't understand 2) previous preterm labor, my DS born 30 days early, no complications, and 3) pregnancies close together, my son is 11 weeks. I plan on seeing a high risk doctor if this cycle works, but I'm still worried. Just wondering if anyone knows why IVF is a risk factor for preterm birth?

Your son is 11 weeks and you're going for ET tomorrow? Are you sure you want to do this so soon? You're very young and there's been great success with FET's. I don't mean to intrude & definitely wish you the best of luck, but remember to take good care of yourself -don't overload your body.
Take care,

neffi i never heard that ivf gave you a risk of preterm... I went into labor early with both early an they stopped it. My first ended up being delivered at 39 weeks and my last at 36 weeks. Which anything over 36 weeks is cosidered full term.

2ndtimer-- I know it sounds crazy....my Dh and I are going to lose our insurance so its now or never! We will not have the money to do fertility treatments without insurance becasue we used our entire saving on our first child. We know there is risk involved but my RE said my body looks good and I should be okay. If I got the choice I would not have them so close, but if I want my son to have a sibling, this is my best chance.

My understanding is that there is a very mild correlation between IVF and preterm labor with singletons, likely because IVF tends to be used by women who have fertility issues. I don't think IVF in and of itself really adds to the risk, it's just that the lucky folks who have no problems never have to use IVF.
