Laparoscopy due to Hydrosalpinx (I'm new to this site)

Post by Eytbol8 »

I met with my doctor after a failed first (what appeared to be an almost perfect) cycle and the doctor discovered fluid in/around my right tube, which has been determined to be Hydrosalpinx. It was probably caused by a blocked tube that was not detected in my HSG test. Apparently those tests are only about 80% accurate and I fell in that 20% that did not detect a small blockage. We are talking about having a procedure called Laparoscopy. Has anyone (I'm sure many, many, many have) Laparoscopy? Any insight on what to except, how the procedure goes, how long I should expect to be out of work, and more importantly information on positive IVF cycle outcomes after the procedure.

I have another meeting with my doctor to talk about in more detail, but would love some insight from some who have been through this. Thanks in advcance for reading my post and any replies.

Hi Eytbol8- I too was diagnosed w/hydros in both tubes last year. I just recently had lapro to remove both tubes a few weeks ago. I was super nervous about having the surgery but I realized I had no chance of getting preggo naturally so what was the point of keeping the tubes. Both of my tubes were completley blocked and I had lots of scar tissue. Mine was found during a very painful HSG!

Anyhow after the surgery I was very sore for a few days but I took a week off work just because I didn't want to over do it. It have been 2 weeks and a few days since my surgery and my incisions have almost completly healed, the one in my belly button you can't even hardly see at all :D

I am started my 1st IVF cycle this month and will have transfer in May. I'm very excited but nervous too! When are you scheduled for your lapro? I hope this helps some, if you have other questions please feel free to ask!

I also had hyrosalpinx and my doctor had to removed my tube and he attempted to repair my other tube. Recovery from the surgery wasn't bad but I went thru a period of feeling depressed that I wasn't able to have children the natural way - that was the hardest part for me. I was okay physically a couple days after the surgery though. Good Luck to you.

Hi, I have a slight different story.

I was diagnosed with hydro on my left tube during my HSG. My doctor thought it would still be ok to do IVF without clipping or removing the tube. Long story short, I had two failed "perfect" cycles (really, everything by the book except the pregnancy test at the end). At that point my RE started reconsidering his decision to go directly to IVF without the laparoscopy. He sent dh and I home to think about it (we had the choice of having the surgery and then trying for another frozen cycle OR try one more time without removing the tube). After talking for a while dh and I decided that we wanted to try one more time without removing the tube. Meanwhile I started going to a naturopath dr to help me get ready for transfer (she thought I had taken the right decision and worked with my situation, including doing something to "seal" the hydro so it wouldn't leak to the uterus). I followed a few natural medicine recommendations/simple non-invasive treatments she gave me along with the regular IVF/FET drugs, etc. AND...it worked!!! this little baby that I'm about to deliver is a product of that cycle.

Now, I'm not saying "don't have the surgery." I know that some women really need to have the surgery in order for the embies to implant, but I wanted to share my story. I remember looking for stories like mine back then and not finding many on-line (I think I only found 1 or 2 of other women who had conceived with hydro, and that was it, everyone else had the surgery previous to conceiving).

Let me know if you have any question. BEST WISHES in whatever you decide and on the rest of your journey :D

hey there . . .

I just had surgery on monday . . . had a hsg that found a bilateral hydrosalpinx...fluid in both tubes . . . i knew right away those tubes were dead to me . . . could not wait to take them out!

day of surgery= sleepy/little nauseous from anesthsia . . . somewhat sore...
day after=no nausea/still a little tender

I really haven't felt any pain...just soreness....took the whole week off from work, but probably could have gone back on thursday if I had to . . . I wouldn't call the surgery easy, but a lot less painful than I thought . . .

great website: http://my-hydrosalpinx.com/research

I'm glad I had the procedure . . . the tubes were of no use to me and herbal remedies/surgical repair has little or no effectiveness...yank 'em and move forward! =)
Good luck! =)
